REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSReports to: Pharmacy ManagerGENERAL SUMMARYWorks under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager. The primary job function of the Registered Pharmacist is to distribute medications and supplies according to departmental procedures with the assistance of pharmacy technicians. Collaborates with physicians and other hospital staff on medication related matters. Educates patients and their families to optimize drug therapy.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:•High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required•Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (5 year) is required•Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) is also preferredLicensure:•Pharmacy(OH) license required•Graduate Pharmacists may also be hired awaiting license•BLS within 90 days of hire requiredExperience:•Previous hospital experience preferredInterpersonal Skills:•Must be able to communicate effectively with hospital, physicians, and nursing personnel when clarifying medication orders and dispensing pharmaceutical supplies. Must be able to provide drug information to a variety of clinical personnel. Must assign work and provide guidance to departmental personnel.Essential Technical/Motor Skills:•Inputting data/typing, speaking clearly, answering telephones, precise eye/hand/foot coordination, fingering/fine dexterity, delicate/precise manipulation, handling/gripping.Essential Physical Requirements:•Lifting/transferring/carrying light (20 lbs. Maximum). Pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, reaching, positioning, standing, holding, walking repetitive activities.Essential Mental Requirements:•Calculations, manipulating numbers, interpreting numbers, analyzing, forecasting, assessing/evaluating, explaining/teaching, synthesizing, attention to detail, spatial/form perception, memory, problem-solving/reasoning.Essential Sensory Requirements:•Ability to see, hear, feel, taste/smell, distinguish color.Exposure to Hazards:•Various chemicals, electrical apparatus, mechanical apparatus. Eye strain from detailed work and computer operation. OSHA category I - tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.Other:•N/AJOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSThe following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies according to accepted standards of practice to fill written prescriptions issued by qualified prescribers.2. Checks the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications dispensed.3. Intervenes clinically with the physician when necessary and appropriate to optimize drug therapy.4. Maintains accurate and appropriate patient profiling and charging records for all inpatient and non-inpatient medication orders.5. Follows accepted standards of practice and adheres to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of SOMC and Pharmacy Services.6. Serves as a drug information source for patients, physicians, nursing personnel, hospital staff, visitors and the community.7. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with certain assigned reports or projects.8. Maintains a level of professional competency and remains current in the field of pharmacy.9. Assigns, teaches, supervises, and monitors the work of Pharmacy Technicians, students, interns and externs.10. For clinical pharmacists, the pharmacist must serve as a preceptor for 2 students in a calendar year. (as it applies)11.
