As an API Product Manager, you will play a crucial role in driving the strategy, development, and lifecycle management of the company's Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) offering through. Your primary responsibility will be to gather requirements from various stakeholders, and define the API roadmap to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality API products that meet customer needs and business goals. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES API Strategy and Roadmap: Develop and maintain a comprehensive API product strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to prioritize and define the API roadmap based on market research, customer feedback, and industry trends. Product Development: Work closely with engineering teams to define API specifications, ensuring they are well-documented, scalable, and meet security and performance standards. Drive the agile development process, including defining user stories, reviewing progress, and providing guidance to ensure timely and successful API releases. Market Analysis: Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities in the API space. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices to inform product decisions and improvements. Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, and customer support, to understand customer needs and gather feedback on existing APIs. Act as the subject matter expert on API-related matters, providing support and insights to internal teams and customers. API Documentation and Communication: Ensure comprehensive and user-friendly documentation for APIs, including usage guidelines, code examples, and troubleshooting procedures. Communicate API updates, changes, and new features to internal teams and external partners. Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of API products. Analyze API usage data and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and drive optimization initiatives. Compliance and Security: Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure API products meet industry standards and data protection regulations. Monitor API security and implement necessary measures to protect against potential vulnerabilities. Resource Management: Managing the Business Analyst and guiding their work. Collaborating with the Business Analyst to gather and analyze business requirements. Reviewing and validating requirements before development. Ensuring the Business Analyst's work aligns with the product vision and strategy. Facilitating communication and collaboration between the BA and other teams. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. 5+ years of proven experience as a Product Manager, preferably with a focus on API products. Strong technical background and understanding of API technologies and protocols. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data to make informed product decisions. Strong project management skills and the ability to drive initiatives to completion. Understanding of agile development methodologies. Familiarity with API security and compliance best practices. As an API Product Manager, you will be instrumental in shaping the company's API offerings and driving innovation that delivers exceptional value to customers while contributing to the company's growth and success in the market. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology A strong understanding of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), including different types (RESTful, SOAP, GraphQL, etc.), API design principles, and best practices. Knowledge of API documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI is also beneficial Recent experience working with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, XP) and cross-functional teams (Product Owners, BSA’s, Developers, etc)
