Maintenance Technician Assistant Lewis and Clark County is hiring for a Maintenance Technician Assistant. Under the direction of the Buildings Maintenance Supervisor, this position assists Maintenance Technicians in maintaining County facilities and operations to ensure the preservation, security, and safety of County properties and associated equipment. The Building Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the following County-owned buildings: County Attorney, District Courts, Drug Court, Justice Court, Juvenile Probation, Community Services, Murray Building, and Detention Center. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and one year of construction, mechanic, or facility maintenance experience. Other combinations or education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Special Requirements: Successful applicant must pass a background check and have a valid drivers license. Must be able to obtain and maintain CJIN Security Certification. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in maintaining County facilities to ensure buildings are fully operational, secure, and safe. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of facilities and equipment. May conduct routine preventative maintenance inspections. Assists the Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on County equipment and property. Assists the Maintenance Technicians with installing, repairing, and maintaining systems such as HVAC, building envelope structural systems, boilers, cooling towers, furnaces, unit heaters, heat pumps, domestic hot water systems, emergency power systems, various types of refrigerant systems, non-transient water and chlorination systems, small engines, commercial laundry, and kitchen equipment. Works with the Maintenance Technician to perform carpentry tasks including framing up walls, doorways, windows, shelving, furniture repairs, or small remodels. Assists with repairs to plumbing systems and electrical systems. Removes winter snow and ice with manual and powered snow equipment. Operates and maintains various types of lawn equipment and power equipment to care for the grounds. Operates and maintains lawn sprinkler and irrigation systems. Maintains tools and work areas following good housekeeping practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Examples of Skills and Abilities: Understand oral and written instructions; Good communication and dexterity skills; Perform various maintenance tasks associated with the care and maintenance of buildings and grounds; Operate hand and power tools; Proficient in groundskeeping, including landscaping, lawn care, and seasonal outdoor maintenance; Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn; Perform physical labor under all kinds of climatic conditions, indoors or outdoors; Establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and citizens. Physical Demands: Duties are generally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Position performs work in all types of weather in the presence of chemicals, higher power voltages (A/C and D/C), moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, and heights. This position must be able to stand, twist, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. Position requires regular contact with fellow employees, inmates, and the public.
