Terms and Conditions apply**The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employmentLicensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of PharmacyExperience REQUIRED: N/AExperience PREFERRED:Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.Education/training REQUIRED:Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic programEducation/training PREFERRED:Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic programIndependent action(s) required:The monitoring, screening and verification of all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule and ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments, counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications, and resolve equipment and operational problems.Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/AAdditional position requirements:Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends.Age Specific groups served: AllPhysical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate):Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinkingEmotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent, changeThis positing is for an hourly (PRN) research pharmacist position. The research pharmacist with VCU Health Investigational Drug Services has ownership over the investigational drug dispensing process to ensure safe management of investigational drugs along with appropriate regulatory control and record keeping. Executes the services and functions of an investigational pharmacist in an academic medical center environment. Serves as a department liaison to study teams and sponsors in a professional and courteous manner. Enhances the care and safety of study patients. In addition to the job description responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.General ResponsibilitiesIn order to provide adequate regulatory control, appropriate record keeping and safe use of investigational drugs, dedicated research pharmacy staff are needed to handle pharmacy services for clinical trials. There is a wide array of research activities that investigational pharmacists have ownership over, including but not limited to:Drafting of pharmacy charge estimate for every trial requesting the services of Investigational PharmacyComprehensive initial pharmacy works up of study documents including review of protocol, investigator's brochure, and pharmacy manualBuild of study and investigational agents in Vestigo, including creation/charging of fees as specified in pharmacy charge estimateParticipation in Site Initiation Visit for each study utilizing IDSReview of all study document changes for ongoing trials to ensure that pharmacy relevant changes are noted and implemented in a timely mannerDrafting of pharmacy dispensing guidelines for all trials utilizing IDS, as well as a fact sheet for nursing use for investigational agents with no FDA prescribing informationOversight of all study ordering, dispensing and compounding activities, include order verification, product/compound checking, and hand-off to study team or subject's nurseDeveloping a prescribing plan by either creating an RX template or EHR template/build request, including new universal build request generation of IDS handled study drugs and applicable significant drug -drug interactions.Assistance with trial design, including randomization schemes, drug preparation procedures and delivery logisticsGeneration, review, and send-out of billing invoices for pharmacy charges monthlyAdequate control and oversight of investigational drugs as required by federal and state regulationsPreparing for and conducting trial record auditsEEO Employer/Disabled/Protected Veteran/41 CFR 60-1.4.
