Position Description:

American Tire Distributors (ATD) is seeking an experienced, energetic Senior Engagement Specialist

Located in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Hybrid Role

The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic thinker with strong experience developing and managing high-profile communications programs across the enterprise that drive associate engagement. As an Senior Engagement Specialist, you will be responsible for associate engagement planning, content development and execution to bring to life the strategy and activation for promoting trust and transparency while building a positive employment brand image by owning the dissemination of information and logistical project management.

This role requires excellent communication skills, successful at collaborating in a matrix environment and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced culture. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work cross-functionally and leading proactive and reactive communications programs with tangible results. A motivated self-starter who is able to proactively offer ideas and strategies with the ability to operate on a tactical, persistent, sustainable level. This role will need to have a high bar for writing, grammar, and high attention to detail to deliver high-quality content for all stakeholders. This is a “hybrid” role, expected to be onsite in our Huntersville, Field Support Center 2-3 days each week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish an engagement communications content strategy and activation plans in partnership with peers, project and leadership teams for organizational associate and community engagement initiatives.

  • Develop and schedule annual engagement calendar and activities that effectively support the people-first, connected culture strategy.

  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, quarterly magazine, regular email bulletin and other ATD owned channels.

  • Work alongside ATD’s on-site Experience Specialist to support the visitor engagement experience at the Field Support Center. 

  • Identify and implement an appropriate mix of traditional and new media to influence positive audiences and drive engagement across the organization.

  • Continually raise the bar on development of compelling, data-driven storytelling with an associate focus.

  • Ensure all communications are aligned with corporate strategy and goals and exemplify the brand and ‘voice’ of the organization to support organizational goals and our values through all communications.  

  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization, including consistency with external communication messages.

  • Support video engagement projects, which may include production schedule coordination, scripting and drafting talking-points, developing production books, and on-set production assistance.

  • Act as advisor and work collaboratively across the organization to facilitate communications support for engagement initiatives to deepen corporate culture.

  • Support and help drive our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, including community impact by engaging with community partners and stakeholders, organizing impact activities, fundraising and volunteerism.

  • Lead engagement event planning, design and production within time limits and budget, including managing all project delivery elements such as communications and presentations, decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, location, invitee list, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc.

  • Help with vendor selection and contract negotiation for engagement, video-production and communications vendors.

  • Advise leadership of developments and progress throughout the organization, either face to face or through regular written communication.

  • Monitor accuracy and timeliness of information distributed; respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.

  • Measure and track the effectiveness of engagement initiatives, content and communications channels, as well as community impact activities and fundraising efforts making recommendations to adjust as appropriate.

What do you bring to the table:

  • Strategic skills: Ability to identify strategic engagement initiatives to keep associates informed, engaged and connected to the business. Think creatively and with agile, forward-thinking vision on how to answer requests and take on challenges in a way that will ultimately improve internal awareness and connection.

  • Writing skills: You need excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from associates. Act as editor and brand champion for internal communications.

  • Speaking skills: You also need strong speaking skills as you are likely to be called on to give presentations to staff. Internal communications managers need sensitivity to an organization’s goals and values and the ability to relay them to associates.  

  • Interpersonal skills: You need good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with communications and HR departments. You also need to possess the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.

  • Creative skills: You need the creative ability to devise creative communication strategies, content and visual assets.

  • Content skills: You will need to think through how to best craft relevant human interest stories, blog posts, email copy, and presentations in order to engage our target audience. You should be skilled at writing for technical readers in a relevant way for the reader.

  • Organizational skills: You need to drive projects forward by staying on schedule. Staying assertive and accountable for implementation and ensuring message alignment and integration across communications channels.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience with Bachelors in engagement, marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or similar experience.  

  • Previous working experience as internal communications specialist for a large organization,

  • Writing for a variety of different audiences is also desired. General journalistic or marketing experience is beneficial.

  • Experience in visual assets, content production, photo and video-editing skills is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite; photo and video-editing software is an asset

  • Experience and knowledge in copywriting, proofreading and editing.

  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.

  • Proficient command in English language.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, outstanding organizational and time-management skills.

  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior managers is also looked upon favorably.

  • Effective face-to-face, written, and phone skills.

  • High degree of comfort working with all levels of associates and a variety of vendors.

  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent follow-through skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tactical work while thinking strategically about projects deliverables and deadlines.

  • Periodic travel to customer sites, or company events or meetings as needed.
