JOB DUTIESUnder the direction of the Pharmacy Director, helps to maintain a viable program of drug distribution to assure legal compliance, professional delivery hospital services, maintenance of hospital regulatory standards to maximize patient safety, and efficiently utilize resources.Serves as a clinical pharmacist when necessary.Maintain a formulary of drugs to be used in the hospital including efforts to ensure appropriate, cost effective inventory management and inventory choices.Assure proper staffing and communication within the hospital pharmacy, and coordinate the daily activities of the department.Oversee the management of pharmacy hospital department personnel including, creation of and oversight of disciplinary actions or performance improvement plans as needed, recruiting, selection, orientation, and training of department personnel and the formal evaluation of their work efforts. Maintains a work environment of optimal employee satisfaction and engagement.Oversees and approves departmental schedules and payroll.Assists the Pharmacy Director in the selection of and oversees the implementation and maintenance of new pharmacy specific technology including decision to delegate maintenance of these technologies to the informatic pharmacist or other personnel within the department.Ensures appropriate access to physical and technological medication storage facilities within and throughout the departments of the hospital.Develops, reviews and maintains policies and procedures in accordance with law and professional standards.Participate in or provide agendas for, hospital committees or conferences, as delegated by the Pharmacy Director.Corporate Compliance: Employee completes annual compliance/ethics attestations and mandated training courses.Must be a licensed pharmacist in the state of PennsylvaniaMust understand the basic concepts of drug distribution and control, and be familiar with current drug therapy practices for patients of all ages.Must have an understanding of the technology in use in the hospital pharmacy and be able to independently verify that equipment considered for purchase meets requirements.Must be able to work with pharmacy staff in a supervisory role, and function in group and committee settings.MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREDThe position requires a Bachelor of Science degree or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D). An advanced degree is desirable but not required. The Pharmacy Manager must have a current, valid license as a registered pharmacist in the state of Pennsylvania. The position requires familiarization with administrative and functional concepts of drug distribution and control, drug therapy practices, and clinical aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. The Manager must be willing and able to make judgments and decisions regarding the supervision of personnel, appropriateness of drug therapy, and handling of day to day problems and occurrences. Evaluation, assessment, prioritization, and problem solving are among the key skills required for this position.
