The Manager of Respiratory Therapy has 24/7 leadership responsibility of the daily operations of the department including, clinical, staffing, quality, and financial management of the department. Ensures compliance with performance improvement processes and all regulatory bodies. Ensures an effective patient care delivery system that is compliant and consistent with standards of practice. Implements strategies, processes, and standards to ensure operations support the key organizational and departmental initiatives such as quality of care and patient safety. Promotes collegial relationships between the unit and other departments or disciplines across the hospital. Responsible for employee coaching, training, hiring, counseling/discipline, performance assessment and payroll processes.
Responsibilities
- Manages the daily operations of the department, including ABG Laboratory equipment, maintenance and documentation. Demonstrates advanced level of clinical expertise, strong leadership and collaborative skills in dealing with staff and members of the healthcare team. Consistently ensures respiratory practice is evidence based, within scope of licensure and compliant with hospital wide standards of respiratory care. Ensures institutional compliance with professional, accrediting and regulatory standards of care. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels. Oversees contract labor, including appropriate credentialing, orientation and evaluation. Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations and competencies, and payroll process. Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, and all established policies, procedures and legal guidelines.
- Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff. Delegates patient care activities to appropriate members of the healthcare team, provides effective leadership and ensures that care is safe and of high quality. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about treatments.
- Empathizes with patient and patient support systems, expresses compassion and understanding for the situation and demonstrates care which is appropriate for the age, and cultural, religious, gender identity, or ethnic background. Engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes deliberate/thoughtful actions regarding how to best carry out interactions with the patient, families, physicians, and co-workers.
- Actively participates in performance improvement processes. Appropriately educates and mentors. Demonstrates problem-solving, critical thinking, and prioritization of work to resolve issues as they arise in an appropriate and timely manner.
Required Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of respiratory care experience with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
- Current Licensure as an RCP in the State of California
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (if graduated after 2015)
- AHA Basic Life Support
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize task
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Previous Pediatric Experience
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
- Bachelor of Science
- Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS)
Pay Rate: Min - $124,800 | Max - $171,600

Southern California Hospital at Culver City has been taking care of generations of Culver City and west LA residents. We are a full-service, acute care hospital with a 24/7 emergency department and nationally recognized patient safety. Now at 420 beds, SCH-CC is a general acute care hospital that utilizes many of the latest medical treatments and technologies. The hospital offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient acute care services, including an orthopedic center, cardiovascular services, acute rehabilitation, sub-acute care, psychiatric care and chemical dependency programs. Additionally, SCH-CC operates a 24-hour emergency services center, which serves as a paramedic receiving station and is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and nurse specialists.
