Position Summary The team links research and commercialization, developing the manufacturing processes at an intermediate scale to enable commercialization of new materials, new resources and major process improvements. This growing team is seeking a Process Development Engineer with experience in cold rolling of metals to produce thin and ultra-thin foils to become a key technical contributor for the research, development and commercialization of the manufacturing processes required to produce cutting edge forms of Lithium metal foils. Prior experience in the design and operation of cold rolling mills is a must have, with a background in the engineering fundamentals and scale-up of cold rolling being highly desirable traits that will differentiate a candidate. Experience in other metal working operations such as extrusion, metal film lamination, die or laser cutting, and other converting and roll to roll processing techniques are also highly desirable. Experience from the paper industry or in other roll to roll processing technology may also be applicable. Specific roles and responsibilities include: Provide technical leadership to the assigned projects Operate R&D and pilot scale rolling mills, extruders, laminators and other processing technologies Conduct or facilitate physical property testing of raw materials and finished products Establish design criteria for rolling mills, extruders, laminators and other process equipment via the application of engineering fundamentals Collaborate with external companies and experts in the field of rolling mill equipment design, fabrication and operation Propose and test manufacturing process concepts Define and establish pilot and production scale processing capabilities Design and conduct DoE’s at lab and pilot scales to validate process criteria, establish robust operating windows and define consistent/capable manufacturing processes Generate and validate technical hypothesis for the advancement and development of new process technologies Develop reliable scale-up methodologies and techniques for new products Generate, analyze, and present technical data in a coherent manner to support technical decision making Develop and refine operating and capital cost models Collaborate with and utilize internal and external capital project engineering resources Contribute to and lead the development of technical strategies and roadmaps for the process development and scale-up activities required to achieve project success, both technically and time driven Interact with internal stakeholders, both technical and business, to communicate progress and achievements, and successfully progress new product commercialization projects The successful candidate is expected to become a key technical contributor on the development and commercialization of new products that will enable the ongoing Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution. Relevant experience and knowledge are key. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong internal customer focus, including technical reports and technology transfer packages. Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience within an industrial setting.
