Job Description

SUMMARY The Director advocates and communicates with Congress, the Administration, Agencies, and industry stakeholders on issues related to administration of grazing permits on federal lands and various issues affecting a wide variety of grazing operations. This individual is a member of the NCBA Natural Resources policy team and will engage with the Executive Director and other policy staff on issues related to wildlife, water, air, property rights, and issues affecting cattle and beef producers nationwide. This individual concurrently serves as Director of the Public Lands Council, in which capacity they represent cattle and sheep producers who hold federal grazing permits in Western states. In this capacity, they assist the Executive Director in carrying out PLC policy and purposes, including advocacy, communications, research, and efforts to promote the longevity of public lands grazing in the Western United States. . ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Assist the Executive Director with lobbying efforts and lead individual lobbying efforts with Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies. Research, analyze, and develop engagement strategies for regulations and legislation which may affect ranchers operating on both public and private lands. Prepare or facilitate the preparation of technical or public comments on issues impacting livestock producers. Serve as one of the staff liaisons for the NCBA Federal Lands Committee and provide necessary staff support, coordination, and expertise to the Committee and associated working groups. Monitor Congressional hearings and communicate developments to PLC and NCBA members. Participate in and build coalitions for policy issues affecting NCBA and PLC members. Participate and assist with NCBA and PLC meetings and conventions, and provide primary policy expertise to the PLC Board of Directors Travel, as needed, to NCBA and PLC affiliate meetings to provide updates and information to members. Represent NCBA Federal Lands and PLC in radio, television, print media, and other communications platforms. Other job duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION



Bachelor’s degree with an agriculture, natural resource, or political science focus is required.

EXPERIENCE



3+ years’ experience in natural resource, agriculture, or public lands policy. EQUIVALENCY

Candidate should possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, knowledge of the legislative process, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Candidate should have strong computer skills: word processing (Microsoft Word), Power Point, Publisher, and Excel. Experience in thoughtful development of communication of issues will be required.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a working knowledge of, and/or experience in, western livestock/agriculture industries.
