Overview The Woodlands Hospital a primary and secondary care hospital serving North Harris and Montgomery counties. Clinical services include cardiovascular services diagnostic imaging women's services (digital mammography and bone density studies) neurosciences pediatric care (Newborn and Level II nurseries) and surgery pathology and pulmonary services and sleep disorders. Clinical affiliations include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's Radiation Treatment Center and Texas Children's Hospital. The Program Manager Magnet RN is accountable for coordinating activities required to attain and maintain ANCC Magnet recognition. This individual will design the Magnet recognition program strategy by working collaboratively with the direct care providers, nursing leaders, and ancillary leadership colleagues across the organization. The position will research and promote excellence in nursing practice and serve as a catalyst for change to ensure the facility(ies) responsible for remains a national leader in nursing practice. In collaboration with other nursing leaders, the Manager facilitates a supportive environment for professionalism, excellence, collegiality, and continuous improvement. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the CHI St. Luke's mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with policies and procedures. The Magnet Program Manager will assist with special projects in nursing, nursing staff development and other professional practice. * Registered Nurse (RN) required * This position will Require someone with prior success in writing an application for a Magnet Program OR someone who has written 1-2 Beacon applications. * Strong technical writing skills is a MUST. Responsibilities Nursing Practice/Nursing Leadership: Designs Magnet program strategy Works collaboratively with nursing, physician, operational, and ancillary professional leadership to ensure goals of Magnet designation are accomplished. Serves as a liaison to the College of Nursing and other entities to develop and maintain relationships to ensure the integration of research and evidence based practice. Communicates and effectively translates the goals and expectations of Magnet standards of evidence to nursing leaders and direct care nurses. Provides leadership to the department of nursing in interpretation and compliance with ANCC Magnet Program standards and expectations. Promotes excellence in nursing practice and research. Provides a mechanism to disseminate best practices both internally and externally. Acts as a change agent in support of nursing staff professional practice. Leads Magnet program planning, implementation, and evaluation efforts. Provides leadership implementation of an ongoing Magnet readiness gap analysis and coordinates the action plan to address areas in need of improvement. Serves as a liaison to ensure quality initiatives have strategic alignment with the Magnet standards and expectations. Benchmarks outcomes and acts as a gatekeeper to ensure Magnet standards are maintained and exceeded. Provides compelling and focused communication to leaders and staff across the nursing division and the organization to ensure understanding and compliance with Magnet standards and expectations. Provides Magnet related information sessions, training, and support for nursing and staff leadership. Coordinates the development of Magnet designation application documents. Prepares the Magnet documentation including collection and submission of key nursing sensitive outcome indicators. Serves as the liaison to the ANCC Magnet office and Magnet list serv. Coordinates submission of abstracts for Magnet conference, Magnet prize awards, and other conferences and award opportunities as identified. Applies, as appropriate, EvidenceBased Practice (EBP) or Research evidence to standards of Nursing Care. Works collaboratively with nursing in the analysis and development of practice in accordance with the 5 model components of the Magnet Recognition Program at CHI St. Luke's. Communication Develops and maintains systems for disseminating information to nursing and other departments. Collaborates with the Professional Nursing Shared Governance (PNSG) Councils in the development of communication for the nursing staff. Serves as editor for the nursing newsletter, and the site administrator for the Magnet website. Development and distribution of Annual Report for Nursing. Coordinates communication regarding Professional Nursing Shared Governance Councils. Assists Shared Governance Councils and/or individuals in the communication of standards of care. Ensures that the Department of Nursing standards of care are communicated to nursing leadership and staff through the Communication Process. Participates in CHI Magnet workshops. Collaborates with CHI St Luke's Marketing department in proper use of Magnet designation as well as graphic representation. Competency and Evaluation Assists with evaluation of the effectiveness of the annual evaluation process including evaluation tools and nursing peer review. Shared Governance: Assumes responsibility and coordination of nursing shared governance. Acts as an advocate and expert resource for the Professional Nursing Shared Governance (PNSG) model in the health system and actively promotes participation on the committees by serving as a mentor. Accountable for PNSG ByLaw review and ongoing revisions. Guides individual units in the development/strengthening of the unitbased shared governance councils. Works with PNSG Councils in the development and maintenance of their mission and goals. Reviews, on an ongoing basis, their status in achievement of their goals. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: BSN and Master's degree required; DNP or PhD preferred Three (3) years of related professional level experience. Experience in facilitating a successful ANCC Magnet application. Experience with Magnet documentation submission and site visit. Professional membership required. Required License and Certification: Current unencumbered RN license to practice in the State of Texas, Professional Certification required. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abillities and Training: Expertise and progressive experience in management and/or nursing management. A high level of analytical ability is required. Ability to design complex clinical or administrative systems or programs. Established reputation as a leader, consultant, and spokesperson for nursing. Excellent communication skills required in order to lead, teach, and persuade others. Must be able to travel as necessary. Must have proficiency in working with computer software including Microsoft and other windowsbased systems. Maturity, good judgment, dependability, tact, diplomacy, a good attitude, treating all individuals with respect and fairness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential. Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient or other highly sensitive business information and must comply with the terms of CHI St. Luke's Policies as they apply to their job role.
