The Opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Operations – Reconciliation Associate to join our dynamic team in the Controller's organization. As a key member of our team, you will have a significant impact on our financial reporting and reconciliation processes. Your responsibilities will include executing monthly close responsibilities, partnering with business operational areas to resolve variances, and utilizing industry best practices to visualize data and identify trends. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and initiatives, including process improvements and data analysis. The Impact: As an Accounting Operations – Reconciliation Associate, you will have a direct impact on our financial reporting and reconciliation processes. Your skills and expertise will be utilized to execute core operational accounting tasks, as well as to support our business operational areas. Your responsibilities may include: Executing assigned monthly close responsibilities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and controls. Partnering with business operational areas to resolve variances in a timely manner, while understanding the risk and impacts to financial statements. Utilizing industry best practices to visualize data and identify trends. Analyzing data and providing commentary to enable readers to quickly understand impacts to their respective areas. Identifying and implementing accounting or business operational improvements that increase business value and efficiency. Responding to inquiries and requests from internal and external auditors. Developing, documenting, and assuring adherence to an internal control framework that ensures accurate and timely financial reporting. Complying with Sarbanes Oxley (FRR) standard work/initiatives. Participating in projects and continuous improvement activities that may span beyond the scope of the team's responsibilities. Managing a customer-centric experience while following through on promises and commitments. Collaborating and maintaining strong working relationships with business partners and customers. Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, economics, finance, math, or related field. 5+ years of experience in financial services. Preferred Qualifications Solid understanding of one or more of the following types of products and services: life insurance, annuities, worksite voluntary benefits, and/or institutional solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, prioritization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Experience in agile project management. Experience working with accounting, business intelligence, and ERP tools (SAP, Cadency, Power BI, Alteryx, etc.). Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel and Access. Ability to consistently prioritize and effectively manage a workload while demonstrating the ability to make independent decisions and work autonomously. Ability to perform independent research and serve as a key resource for resolution of unique or complex business problems.
