Job Purpose

Highly experienced Tire Design Engineer is responsible for designing tires & related components that meet targeted schedules & deliver outstanding performance, quality, reliability, value, & enjoyment to Hondas customers, as well as lead assigned development activities while mentoring group associates.


Key Accountabilities

  • Achieve Performance, Quality, Cost & Delivery targets by:
    • Initiate & lead or conduct the design of engineering solutions & the associated drawings & validation processes for assigned vehicle segments or functions, & to gather data & provide feedback & judgement on their feasibility, costs, quality, & performance.
    • Foresee & recognize potential cascading impacts in the development process and act to prevent or resolve them in a timely manner.
    • Think critically & apply fundamental engineering principles to complex targets.
    • Create own schedules with milestones & trigger points, & share with related groups.
    • Lead meetings & give constructive thoughts along with keeping track of open items.
    • Review costs to ensure it meets the design intentions & provide solutions if it does not.
    • Model parts & systems in 3D & release 2D drawings & specifications using CATIA & MS office.
  • Lead in providing guidance & direction for function group by maturing technical know-how & product development capabilities, including communication & maintaining schedules.
  • Lead cross-functional activities with other departments & divisions. This includes the development of new technologies, research themes, & technically challenging development items.
  • Proactively share development progress with your function members, Chief, Project Leader, Technical Expert & Chief Engineer to confirm proper direction, successful completion or raise awareness of concerns.
  • Complete all required training & share best practices with your peers.
  • Create Value & Innovation through studying technical trends & new technology, consider more efficient processes to support your work, make proposals that create new value for your department, Honda or our customers & confirm application of development strategies for your area of responsibility.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
  • 8+ years tire design or tire development/industry related experience. (keywords; Chassis, Tire)
  • 2+ years supervising & directing people & other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes
  • CAD software (CATIA V5/V6) with Kinematics or closely related, Microsoft Office
