The Director of Health and Infection Prevention Control partners with Resident Care, Quality, Risk Management, and other stakeholders to develop a system of care that promotes evidence based resident care and infection prevention principles and practices. This individual is accountable for the effective direction, management, and operation of Benchmark Senior Livings (BSL) resident health care and infection prevention/control programs (IPCP), which are designed to provide a safe, quality healthcare services, and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections. Through strategic planning, leadership, and consultation, this individual will collaborate with a robust team in the identification and implementation of resident health and infection prevention goals and objectives throughout the organization.
This position will require travel driving and/or air travel. Monthly car allowance provided.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this key position, essential job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP)
Partners with company, regional and community leaders, local, state, and national agencies on activities related to infection
Ensures compliance with evidence-based practices, such as CDC, CMS, and state regulations.
Oversees the operations of the infection prevention/control, and relevant safety programs in all business lines (IL, AL, MC, and SNF/HC).
Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization-wide program for the prevention, identification, investigation, and control of infections of residents, staff, and visitors, including surveillance designed to identify possible communicable diseases or infections before they spread.
Assess the need for, develop, and present IPCP in-service education for individual departments, general orientation, and annual review as needed.
Identify occurrences, reservoirs, incubation periods, periods of communicability, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, and susceptibility associated with the infectious disease process.
Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Differentiate between colonization and infection.
Participates in annual goal setting and evaluation of the IPCP.
Chairperson of the Corporate Infection Prevention and Control Committee; participates in other assigned meetings such as the Quality and Safety Committees.
Authority and responsibility for ensuring appropriate intervention and education occurs with associates, volunteers, and resident care staff when healthcare infection trends, outbreaks or non-compliance to infection control/OSHA are
Ensures that education and counseling on infection prevention is available for associates, volunteers, medical staff, residents, and families.
Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ensures that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues. Understands and complies with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures and
Resident Health/Resident Care
Partner with Regional partners, Resident Care team, and Quality on activities related to resident health/care.
Develop, implement, and evaluate resident health/care programs, policies, and procedures.
Subject matter expert (SME) liaison with HR and Learning/Development related resident care/clinical job descriptions, competencies, on-boarding and on-going education.
SME liaison with clinical informatics, and QRS team.
Support new BSL community transitions (acquisitions, openings).
Provide on-site community support as required.
Other resident health/resident care projects as assigned.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE-CERTIFICATIONS

Valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse license. BSN preferred.
Certification in Infection Prevention/Control (CIC or APIC).
Must have a minimum of three years of leadership experience working in skilled nursing and/or senior living settings.
Two or more years of regional/multi-community experience preferred.
Must have a valid drivers license.
