The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Vermont is actively recruiting new field staff to work with customers to plan and implement conservation on the land.With a huge increase in the federal investment in conservation and climate smart agriculture and forestry – this a great time to join our team Series: Soil Conservationist Grade(s): GS 0479 - 5/7/9 Location: Negotiable within Vermont Within the USA Jobs posting, select Colchester, Vermont. During the process, please indicate which office location(s) are preferred. What does a “Soil Conservationist” do? Don’t worry if you’re not a Soils expert – we need folks with forestry, agriculture, conservation, and natural resources backgrounds. Minimum soils credits – one 3 credit college class. Strong GIS and computer skills are highly desirable. Assist in gathering and assembling preliminary data for all resource concerns for use in developing complete basic farm and forest conservation plans. Utilize GIS and field/computer tools for assessment and evaluation of field data and customer objectives. Develop management plans, Farm Bill Conservation Contracts, and associated documentation for implementation. Complete practice/plan monitoring and evaluation and follow-up schedule for conservation practices in accordance with plan and contract schedules. Basic Education Requirement: Degree: Soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering. The study must have included 30 semester hours in a natural resource or agricultural field, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science; OR Combination of Education and Experience: At least 30 semester hours in one or more of the disciplines as shown above, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education comparable to a 4-year degree. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science. #J-18808-Ljbffr
