Career Counselor

Summary

The Career Counselor provides comprehensive career counseling services to students and alumni, including

resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, networking, and job search techniques. They coordinate

industry-specific and campus-wide career events, foster relationships with academic departments, and

engage in outreach activities with employers. They also manage social media platforms, creating engaging

content and utilizing graphic design tools for career guidance and event promotion.

The Career Counselor also teaches one section of ORI 300 per semester. This Career Readiness

class is a one-credit course, open to all students and required of business school students. Additionally, the

Career Counselor may teach one of ORI I00 First Year Experience Seminars, a one credit class open to all

first-year students.

Essential Functions
  • Counsels individuals and groups of students and alumni regarding career-related issues (resume and cover letter
writing, interview skills, networking, job search techniques, etc.) by meeting individually with students and, also

presenting to classes and clubs/organizations, including administration and interpretation of career assessments.

Coordinates industry-specific and campus-wide career-related events by contacting employers, marketing to students,

and assisting in overall logistics and setup.
  • Creates, manages, arranges logistics, and implements all aspects of the Career Development Center's signature events, including Majors and Minors Fair, Career Spotlight, and Job Fairs.
  • Research experiential education programs and events, including best practices for college students
  • Develop campus programs and events to support career readiness, such as job shadowing, mentorship, and other externship opportunities.
  • Assist with developing, facilitating, and assessing student mentoring initiatives and programs for a variety of mentor/mentee relationships including, but not limited to peer, alumni, and professional/industry mentors.
  • Create and present a variety of career programs and workshops in support of student career outcomes.
  • Utilize technology, social media, and career platforms to optimize students' outcomes at finding employment.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises peer career coaches (student workers).
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with academic and non-academic departments across campus

with special emphasis on liaison areas, with the goal of improving career opportunities and resources for undergraduate

and graduate students.
  • Assist with overall Career and Experiential department events such as Leadership and Inclusion Conference, Women's Summit, and Inclusion programs.
  • Serve on divisional and university-wide committees.
  • Outreaches and networks with campus community and local, regional, and national employers to cultivate professional relationships by participating on campus committees and councils as well as attending community events. Outreach includes conducting surveys, and focus groups, developing learning outcomes, and assisting in department-assessment efforts by working with the Director and other staff to develop outcomes and measurement techniques.
  • Manages the Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook platforms for the Career Development Center's social media, creating engaging content that gives valuable career guidance while utilizing Canvas to create unique graphic designs to be used on social media and for advertising events


Qualifications/Requirements
  • A Master's degree in any discipline is required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experienced using social media platforms and content creation.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite/Teams
  • Excellent communication skills
