The Sr. Advanced Quality Engineer (Sr. AQE) reports to the Corporate Quality Manager of ASSA ABLOY –Americas Residential Group. The Sr. AQE is a key member of the Baldwin brand and Corporate Quality department. Baldwin is a 75+ year old leading brand in the luxury door hardware space primarily sold in showrooms and hardware specialists online. The Sr. Advanced Quality Engineer (AQE) will elevate quality as competitive advantage and drive brand loyalty by ensuring high product quality from design through production.
The Sr. AQE will support the corporate quality initiatives for the Baldwin brand and work closely with factory QA teams, factory leadership as well as the Baldwin brand ops leader. The Sr. AQE will help to develop site Quality Managers and engineers, provide direction for product, process and design quality, and will advance leading practices to provide predictable results and excellent customer experiences. The Sr. AQE supports and gives guidance to NPI teams through the strategic development and implementation of applicable quality tools and directs critical milestones throughout the NPI cycle. The Sr. AQE provides leadership in product process and reliability functions related to internal factories and suppliers as well as directly influencing the overall advancement of the Americas Residential Group quality culture.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· With unwavering focus on the customer, supports the brand and business vision of delivering high quality, luxury hardware products.
· Leads Corrective / Preventative action initiatives and Investigations for the Baldwin brand.
· Directs and prioritizes quality functions for New Product Introduction / Program launch per group Milestone Processes in a multi-function environment.
· Learn and understand business and shipment impact risks relating to specific quality issues. Prioritize individual actions accordingly.
· Leads strategic effectiveness and implementation of the Product Quality functions and process: Voice of the Customer analysis, customer field data analysis, participate in engineering Design for Manufacturability reviews and Critical to Quality/ Rick identification, Control Plans, FMEA, Capability Analysis, 5F’s, FAI’s and reliability testing.
· Manage supplier quality domestically and internationally as required to baseline supplier production and quality systems and propose related system improvements.
· Proactive leadership in reviewing quality data and identification of trends affecting quality, warranty costs and “Strive for 5” Customer Satisfaction. Establish Metrics to meet future QA vision and mission goals.
· Prioritize, Lead and Direct multiple projects focused on functional business processes that influence customer satisfaction, waste elimination, growth, cost effectiveness, and product/system quality.
· Multi-functional coaching and direction for high level of urgency, ownership, and effectiveness of Corrective and Preventive Actions using appropriate DMAIC Six Sigma methodology as quality excursions arise either in the field or at a group plant or at a supplier.
· Provide guidance and corporate direction for other group Quality Engineering Teams in US, Mexico, and Asia to ensure that corrective and preventive actions are properly validated, and new products meet customer requirements.
· Lead and execute Tear Down Failure Analysis activities on failure returns from the field and generate appropriate Failure Analysis reports.
· Develop, train, Implement, audit, and validate components, plating, finishing, finished goods, and all associated process controls in support of the NPI across our business and supplier base.
Education and Training
· Bachelors in Mechanical, Industrial, Process Engineering or closely related.
· 7 - 10 years quality engineering experience and responsibilities.
· Certified Black Belt or equivalent preferred.
· ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
Career Experience Profile
· Multi-functional Project/ Program Management leadership in a matrix organization
· Product manufacturing experience required.
· Ability to read technical drawings, understand and implement control plans, inspection plans, and value improvement efforts.
· Extensive knowledge of GD&T measurement instrumentation, including optical and handheld measuring equipment.
· Proven experience using 8D and/or DMAIC lean six sigma methodology for closing Corrective & Preventive Actions.
· Proven experience leading and facilitating cross functional Kaizen/Workshops on new product or process development.
· Preferred experience with Design for Six Sigma Tools (QFD, CTQ Flowdown & Measurement Systems, DOE, DFR, DFM, etc.)
· Experience with APQP process (PPAPs, Control Plans, FMEA, etc.) is preferred.
· Excellent leadership & interpersonal skills along with the ability to work with others positively.
· Strong communicator both written and oral.
· Estimated percentage of travelling required 25% (including international).
