Title: Lead Sterile Processing Tech
Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the regions largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. In August 2023, the institute opened Floridas first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer.
In March 2023, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Expertise, technology and services come together under one roof and cover the whole spectrum of care from prevention and diagnostics to therapeutic and surgical treatment options to physical therapy, rehabilitation and performance health. The institute also holds official medical roles with multiple professional, college and high school athletic teams as well as well-known sporting events and venues.

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician position is for an experienced Certified Sterile Processing Technician. Under supervision of the SPD (Sterile Processing Department) Supervisor, the Lead Sterile Processing Technician will serve as a shift lead and will run a shift
independently when supervisors are not present. The position will assist and monitor activities related to sterilization, decontamination,
and disinfection for their assigned shift while promoting services and satisfaction through training, education, and resolution of
instrument set and processes concerns of staff and physicians. The lead sterile processing tech assists Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
Supervisor in overseeing compliance with regulatory considerations. Participates in orientation of new hires, quality audits, and
performance improvement activities for the department. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility
in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Assembles instrument trays for operating rooms and oversees daily operations of all activities that relate to the
reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation.
Ensure all team members follow proper operational procedures.
Assumes responsibility, in collaboration with SPD Supervisor, for scheduling new employee orientation, on-the-job training,
and in-service education and facility quality assurance programs as needed.
Completes some of the documentation required by facility related to inventory/equipment requests and repairs.
Maintains a professional relationship with all facilitys departments as necessary to ensure effective, efficient support to the
patient caregivers.
Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing, and storing procedures.
Performs equipment distribution and routing cleaning and maintenance.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other
federal, state, and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Education/Training
High school diploma or equivalent
Licensure/Certification
Certification through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association), CRCST, or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile
Processing and Distribution) (CSPDT)
Experience
Two years of experience in a healthcare based sterile processing department.
