The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattans Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. The Dalton High School is seeking a full-time learning support specialist to start immediately. The ideal candidate will be open-minded, flexible, empathetic, comfortable teaching multiple subject areas, collaborative, and kind. A demonstrated commitment to equity is critical.

**Responsibilities include:**

* Provide individualized and small group, subject-specific support in the humanities, maths, and sciences including writing coaching in English and history,

* Support students as-needed in developing efficient and effective organizational skills, note taking skills, time management, and general study skills.

* Encourage students to develop self-confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills; model and foster a growth mindset

* Develop positive working relationships with students

* Develop knowledge of the grade-level curricula in the core departments

* Provide students with strategies to develop effective independent study skills.

* Help ninth graders make the transition from middle to high school by providing differentiated instruction and collaborating with teachers and advisors.

* Communicate and collaborate with Learning Support staff, psychologists, faculty, House Advisors, HS Administration, and families in attending to students needs.

* Document student progress via frequent email updates and twice yearly narrative reports

* Assist in proctoring students with accommodations

* Participate in regular faculty, staff, and committee meetings; school functions; and school-wide professional development activities during and after school hours

* Engage in professional development to meet the learning and standardized testing needs of adolescents with learning differences.

* Perform related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications:**

Masters degree in Special Education and depth of knowledge in the humanities

Minimum of 5 years experience working with middle or high school students who have learning differences and collaborating with teachers in differentiating strategies

Experience in writing instruction with students who have learning differences

Knowledge of using data from neuropsychological evaluations to inform individual student learning plans

Knowledge of educational and assistive technologies is highly desired
