Library Associate - Adult Services Library Associate - Adult Services Charlotte Mecklenburg Library South Boulevard Branch Please apply by 11/17/2025 Hiring Range: $20.00 - $25.00 This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant's salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job. The South Boulevard Library is located on South Boulevard, just 0.60 miles from the Lynx Blue Line Scaleybark Station. This location is a 18,850-square foot building and a convenient location for the many customers in this growing area along South Boulevard. The new branch includes new, reimagined spaces for both children and teens, public computers, children's computers, a large community room, a programming room, a quiet reading room, a calming room, five group study rooms, a computer lab and a laptop bar for customers who want to bring their own devices, many collaborative spaces and a vending caf. The South Boulevard Library has one of the largest Spanish and bilingual (Spanish/English) collections to serve its large Spanish-speaking community. The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for adults. The Library Associate leads age-appropriate programs for adults including digital literacy classes, technology tutoring, resume workshops, book clubs, and other adult programs. This position represents the library in the community and facilitates outreach to various senior communities and area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Adult Services. Strong programming and outreach experience is highly desirable. Proven ability to build and maintain library and community partnerships is a plus as well as developing positive and ongoing relationships with library users and community partners. Must be a highly collaborative team player and a strong individual contributor. Supervisory skills are highly desirable as well as the ability to inspire excellence in a diverse staff. Must be able to work with limited supervision and exercise sound independent judgment. The incumbent will also be responsible for circulation responsibilities including but not limited to attending the monthly Access Services Manager meeting, staffing a busy information desk, and serving customers of all ages. South Boulevard Library is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology and computer assistance and research and readers' advisory from a single service desk. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty. Previous experience with branch operations, opening/closing a facility and cash handling procedures strongly preferred. Rotating schedule including evenings and weekends. The Library Associate should have strong technology and computer skills. Schedule includes a minimum of one evening shift per week and a rotating weekend schedule. Location: South Boulevard Library 4429 South Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28209 Position Summary Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers. Essential Functions Strong programming and outreach experience is highly desirable. The Adult Services Associate will coordinate and develop relevant programs, including digital literacy classes, technology tutoring, resume workshops, book clubs, and other adult programs needed to meet the community needs. Proven ability to build and maintain community partnerships is a plus as well as developing positive and ongoing relationships with families, library users, staff, and community partners Prepare program reports Provide research assistance to customers Utilize integrated library systems software Provide service desk coverage Assist customers at several service points Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes Maintain library's collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing Assist with volunteer management Promote and market library programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communications to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs Design and provide developmentally appropriate programs for emerging adults, adults and seniors Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays Provide electronic resource assistance and basic computer skills training for adults. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Education/Experience Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of integrated library systems software (IE: Polaris) At least three years of library, customer service and/or administrative experience Experience working with adults. Bilingual - Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are preferred in order to serve a large Spanish-speaking population within the area.
