Job Summary

The college of Engineering Deans Office is currently seeking Maker Space Proctors to join their team of professionals. Duties to include:

  1. Enforce and educate students on Maker Space safety protocols.
  2. Monitor and manage room reservations to ensure fair and organized usage.
  3. Assist students in operating various tools and equipment, including 3D printers, air media, metalworking tools, and other technical devices.
  4. Facilitate workshops and provide hands-on support for student projects.
  5. Maintain and organize the workspace to ensure a conducive environment for creativity and collaboration.
  6. Troubleshoot technical issues and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  7. Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging students to explore and innovate.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment.

  1. Currently enrolled at FIU engineering or computing program.
  2. Strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices in a workshop setting.
  3. Proficiency in using general technical equipment and tools commonly found in a makerspace.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Passion for creativity, innovation, and hands-on projects.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and supportively within student and faculty environment.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.

Standard 20 Hour/week

Advertised Salary

$18.00/hour
