Definition Under direct supervision, may assist in the activities of Marketing & Communications Division of the City Administrative Offices, including aspects of creating and designing Web Content/Social Media Content. Must have knowledge in research, writing, editing and verbal communication skills and be highly proficient in graphic design and should be someone who is well-versed in social media. You should be experienced using social networking sites such as X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor and others. Work schedule will NOT exceed 20 hours per week.
Position Snapshot/A Day in the Life: A typical day would consist of the following: review and/or respond to comments and inquiries on all social media platforms as appropriate, review and document social media post performance, research and gather data to translate into an email blast and social media posts, reviewing and updating website content and checking news and media outlets for relevant information to the City.

The incumbent must have the ability to:

  • Ability to effectively use social networking sites such as X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor and others. Advanced proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Research and write Department print and digital communications including articles, news releases and eNewsletter.
  • Ability to publish content to the city website employing best practices in regard to title, descriptions, tags, etc. Maintain Department website updates.
  • Knowledge and experience with all relevant social media platforms, advertising, and video editing software.
  • Be punctual and responsible in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision when preparing and reading written reports and other work related documents. Acute hearing is also required when providing phone and counter assistance. Experience and Training Guidelines

Intern I: Must be an enrolled undergraduate student in the field of Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other related area.

Intern II: Requires that the candidate has graduated within the past 6 months with an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other related area.

Intern III: Must be enrolled in graduate school pursuing a Master's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other related area. Knowledge should be appropriate to the level of study of the theory and principles of the relevant subject, and the goals and functions of the department. The Intern should possess the ability to reason logically and draw sound conclusions

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of, and continuously throughout employment, a valid CA Class "C" Driver's License.

This position is part-time, at-will, without benefits, unless required by law.
