Boston, United States EPIP Full time

Editorial & Creative Team for The Public Interest Network The Editorial and Creative team for The Public Interest Network seeks a Content Creator. We are looking for a smart, committed and detail-oriented candidate to join our team to tell and amplify the stories of our environmental campaigns through social media, blogs, email alerts, newsletters, annual reports and other print and digital content. The Public Interest Network operates and supports organizations committed to a shared vision of a better world and a strategic approach to social change. The network includes PIRG (the Public Interest Research Group), Environment America, Green Corps, National Environmental Law Center and other organizations. We tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our country today, such as: delivering clean air, clean water and a livable climate to the next generation; transforming our energy and transportation systems for the 21st century; growing food in ways that leave both people and the planet healthier; and responding to the worst public health crisis in a century. If these challenges speak to you, come talk to us. Take the first step by applying for a position. The Editorial and Creative team The mission of the Editorial and Creative team is to help our network win the country over to our forward-looking agenda by messaging, packaging and amplifying our organizations, our campaigns and our staff. The content creator position Each content creator on our team is assigned to an organizational “beat” and tasked with finding and telling the best stories to advance our campaigns. Our team is currently looking for a content creator to cover our environmental work. Take global warming. Environment America has won state and federal policies that clean up polluting power plants. U.S. PIRG has worked in dozens of states and cities for better public transportation. Green Century Funds has led the charge for fossil fuel-free investing. Frontier Group, our think tank, has researched the vast potential of renewable energy. Green Corps has trained new environmental organizers — and these organizers have gone on to take leading roles in the broader climate movement. And that's just one issue and just some of our groups. The job of the content creator is to tell and amplify the stories of these campaigns through social media, blogs, email alerts, newsletters, annual reports and other print and digital content. Candidate must show excellent judgement, discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects. Some of the things you will do Connect: Keep in touch with campaign directors and program teams, learn the issues and campaigns, and stay on top of the campaigns’ action, progress and results. Pitch stories: Find the most compelling stories to tell our activists, donors and the public. Pitch them to our team and others, leading with strong hooks that create paths to action, giving and other forms of engagement. Tell stories: Write (and rewrite, and rewrite again), edit and proofread stories that capture attention and motivate, excite, persuade and enlighten. Amplify and expand stories: Amplify your stories on social media. Expand their meaning and impact through blogs. Adapt them for email alerts and fundraisers, campaign content, direct mail appeals, newsletters, annual reports and more. Get and stay organized: Come up with a plan that puts you in a position to deliver what we’ve promised. Make the best use of your time and keep track of your progress. Organize the team of people you need to take your work from concept to completion. Get training and direction: Practice and perfect your craft. Learn new skills. Get direction up front, editorial feedback throughout, and an evaluation at completion. Keep getting better at what you do. Why you’d be great for the job You’re a strong writer who has written not only academic papers but also news articles, opinion columns, blogs, campaign content and/or fundraising appeals. You’re a clear thinker (a prerequisite for being a strong writer) who can quickly get your head around an issue, sniff out a good story, give it structure, stay on-message, and plan your way from Point A to Point Z. You’re a voracious consumer of news and political content. You not only know what our network is doing, but you understand the context because you’re on top of the news on our issues, politics and the players, including other advocates and activists. You’re a student of communication. You understand how to tell stories differently in a tweet v. a 7-minute long-read, and how to make text and visuals work differently in a post on Instagram v. a spread in an annual report. You’re creative, dynamic and ambitious. You’re a firehose of new ideas. You can think your way around problems. You adapt well to changing circumstances and new developments. You want to achieve more today than you did yesterday. You’re organized. You have excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects. You’re driven to change the world. The planet needs saving, and you’re ready to help save it. You believe we can organize our lives to be healthier, safer and less wasteful, and you’re ready to do your part to make it happen. You’re looking for a calling, not just a job. These skills aren’t required, but they come in handy. Tech stuff: Do you know Canva? Adobe Creative Cloud? Are you a Google Sheets wizard? Data stuff: Can you explain statistical significance and medians v. averages? Are you able to turn raw data into a chart that looks cool and communicates something meaningful? Creative stuff: Are you a good photographer, illustrator or videographer? We plan on working 45-50 hours a week; sometimes we work more, sometimes less. Target annual compensation for this position is commensurate with relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees. The Public Interest Network offers a competitive benefits package. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement. Location Boston. For the foreseeable future, all of our staff are working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Public Interest Network is an equal opportunity employer. #J-18808-Ljbffr
