Middlesex County STEM Charter School is A public school serving grades Kindergarten through 8 and open to all students who reside in the City of Perth Amboy. The school is free to all students and families and is a replication of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, a recipient of the 2016 Blue-Ribbon Award. The mission of the Middlesex County STEM Charter School is to provide rigorous science, technology, engineering, and math curricula in a diverse and nurturing environment to spark students’ interest at early ages in STEM careers.Our mission is delivered through a meticulously engineered educational ecosystem, where we purposefully nurture our students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth, as set forth in our comprehensive vision statement.
Position Summary
The Director of Student Support Services is a key member of our school's leadership team, providing strategic oversight to our counseling services. Reporting to the Chief Education Officer or the Curriculum Director, the Director of Counseling Services is responsible for leading a robust counseling program that supports the well-being and academic and emotional success of our students.
Qualifications:
Valid New Jersey Guidance Counselor Certificate, and Director of School Counseling Services Endorsement.
Minimum experience of five (5) years as a school counselor in a K-12 setting.
Broad knowledge of child growth and development, and guidance and counseling
Strong leadership and communication skills
Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status
Reports to : Chief Education Officer or designee
Supervises:
Guidance counselors and behaviorists
Essential Functions:
Lead the design, implementation, management, direction and evaluation of all aspects of the school-wide counseling services and programs.
Ensure all counseling services are compliant with relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
Conduct performance evaluations of counseling staff and oversee their professional development.
Collaborate with leadership to integrate counseling services within the district's educational framework.
Address and resolve complex issues involving student support services.
Provides leadership and guidance to the school administration in identification, selection, and implementation of social emotional learning programs.
Serves as a leader and general resource person in matters relating to student discipline, alternative education and school safety.
Initiates, facilitates and maintains liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet pupils' special needs. Refers parents and child to agencies when appropriate.
Facilitates research and data analysis to determine effectiveness of counseling services.
Develops strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure college and carrier readiness for all students.
Develops, monitors, and manages the budget for counseling services.
Develops, revises, and maintains board policies, school manuals, handbooks, and operating guidelines regarding counseling and related services.
Collaborates and develops with community agencies mental health and career services.
Works with higher education institutes to develop and implement school counseling related programs.
Provides leadership and guidance to school counselors by direct consultation with counselors and other school administrators.
Executes additional responsibilities as appointed by the Chief Education Officer.

Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance, and resource management skills
Ability to articulate best practices in standards-based instruction, implement, and monitor alternative education models
Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
Knowledge of school and school district policies and practices
Demonstrated ability to implement the school’s strategic plan
Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other applicable software
