Director of Security Academic Medical Center Mid Atlantic; relocation required

The Director of Security will be responsible for physical security efforts of this preeminent healthcare organization in the mid-Atlantic. The incumbent will develop, enhance and oversee policies and procedures designed to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for many stakeholders that include patients, staff, and visitors.

Reporting to the VP of Public Safety, the Director of Security will be responsible for security operations, security technology and access control systems, training, workplace violence and the identification and remediation of threats and security issues relevant to the organization. Other responsibilities include investigations, incident management and protection of senior executives and visiting VIP’s to include government officials.

The Director of Security will serve as an in-house security specialist and provide advice and counsel to senior leadership on visitor management systems, security systems integration, and modernization of security technologies.

Principal Responsibilities:

Physical Security *Develops, implements, and continuously refines physical security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures. *Ensures compliance to the above on an ongoing basis through regular audits. *Conducts, or oversees, periodic physical security assessments and provides recommendations to improve patient, staff and visitor safety. *Develops Key Performance Indicators for the Safety and Security function and provides metrics for senior leaders to quantify risk whenever possible. *Responsible for security budgets, staffing, vendor relationships, and planning as organizational needs change and evolve.

Threat Monitoring *Provides proactive leadership on ongoing and emerging security issues and threats as warranted by events and trends. *Establishes and maintains intelligence networks and relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and other pertinent government agencies.

Executive Protection *Oversees the provision of Executive Protection for senior leadership on an ongoing basis and while traveling on business. *Oversees security coverage for major events, such as visiting government officials.

Security Technology *Responsible for the selection and oversight of all technology tools under the Security umbrella, including access control, CCTV, visitor management systems, security screening, etc. *Oversees key vendors to ensure delivery of high quality and efficient services and products.

Incident & Crisis Management *Assist to establish a culture of security awareness in order to prevent security incidents. *Partakes in the organization’s incident and crisis management efforts, including planning and emergency response. *Works closely with law enforcement, emergency personnel, and other public agencies and coordinates on plans and issues.

Investigations *Conducts, or oversees, internal investigations as needed. *Works with HR on pre-employment screenings.

Communication *Liaise with internal and external healthcare security leaders. *Spearhead coordinated efforts with Federal, State and local Law Enforcement and Emergency Management agencies. *Oversees a program that addresses emergency notifications to internal, external and community stakeholders.

Training *Contributes to regular training, drills, and assessments of response policies and protocols. *Develops and coordinates a comprehensive training program for internal security officers. *Implements a hospital wide training programs for Security Awareness, Workplace Violence, Active Shooter, etc.

Experience and Skills: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in law enforcement, the military, or a corporate security function. At least 5 years of management experience leading a relevant function or team. Knowledge of physical security issues. Ability to forecast and develop budgets and manage internal and external resources. High level management, communication, and problem-solving capabilities. Healthcare experience highly desirable Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation/ OSHA guidelines preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, with an advance degree preferred. ASIS certification (or equivalent) preferred.
