About the role
This is an exciting role for an entrepreneurial individual seeking to expand their career in non profit accounting within a team undergoing extensive financial transformation. A typical day for this role might include reviewing grant agreements, reconciling pledge payments with the Development team, establishing reports as we prepare to integrate to our new CRM system, Tessitura, and consolidating unused GLs within our chart of accounts.
We are seeking a full time Senior Accountant who is a self starter and will work onsite 3 days a week.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Support accurate and timely month-end close for accounts receivable
Prepare journal entries, workpapers, accounting memos, and account reconciliations
Leverage information systems to expand current reporting to provide organizational leaders access to as much real-time or near real-time information as possible, facilitating better and more timely decision making.
Establish and maintain internal controls and safeguards for financial reporting, receipt of revenue, grant or program budgets
Ensure balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and that reconciling items are timely researched and resolved.
Monitor and coordinate the preparation, balancing and reconciliation of various accounting records; prepare or direct the preparation of records and reports for submission to various regulatory and government agencies.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in accounting or finance from an accredited four-year college or university required
At least three years experience at a nonprofit organization required
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in good standing preferred
Experience working with government and private foundation grants
Experience being key person responsible for accounts receivable
Experience managing multiple grants as it relates to compliance, tracking, invoicing, collecting, and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants.
Technology savvy; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software particularly Abila MIP and Microsoft Office applications including advanced Excel skills. Tessitura experience preferred.
Strong organizational, planning, and project / time management skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, and outside partners.
Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will work closely with the Director of Accounting and CFO
Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
