Veterinary Technician/Assistant
Gray Animal Center ~ Gray, Maine

We are a very busy fast-paced two doctor practice and we pride ourselves on providing affordable and compassionate care. We may be a small team, but we work together to be understanding of our client's and pet's needs, often stretching our schedule to accommodate emergencies on a daily basis.
Aside from regular companion animals, like dogs, cats and pocket pets, we welcome exotics like birds and reptiles and even wildlife, as we work closely with the Maine Wildlife Park. We also have a strong passion for rescue, working with multiple animal shelter and rescue groups throughout Maine and beyond.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
-Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.*
-Maintains client educational material in an efficient manner.*
-Performs departmental housekeeping duties.*
-Admits and discharges patients.*
-Takes, processes and logs prescription refills in-house, call out pharmacy and online pharmacy.*
-Monitoring hospital patients and logging vital signs.*
-Administering medications to patients as needed.*
-Placing catheters and performing blood draws.*
-Restraining and assisting the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.*
-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must be able to multi-task. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Veterinary Technicians in MAINE are preferred, not necessarily required. We are open and willing to train the right candidate.
