This person is responsible for the sourcing of manufacturing components, and indirect materials to support factory assembly, and the operation of all support staff. In addition to sourcing, this person will also be responsible for managing the supplier base, and contributing to the improvement of the company's profitability for cost out activities. This position is responsible for the forecast and budget of purchased products. This position is critical for ensuring that the proper flow of material from the supply chain to the factory, and/or the end user of the product is done at the proper price/service/inventory level as determined by upper management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Material Sourcing
- Solicit and analyze quotations from suppliers and negotiate pricing, payment terms and stocking levels that support demand requirements
- Prepare requests for quotations to suppliers, including all requirements and specifications
- Ensure supply agreements are in place where applicable
- Lead Purchasing support of new product initiatives (prototypes, EP, MP)
- Maintain dual-sources to mitigate risk and maintain supplier competitiveness
- Coordinate Shipments with other factories
- Evaluate and maintain supplier reliability
- Develop new supply sources, visit suppliers' facilities as needed
- Ensure suppliers meet PPAP requirements
- Support Buyer activities where necessary in order to spur action by supplier
- Work with Engineering to identify cost-savings opportunities
- Participate in HOS events/activities
- Collaborate with suppliers to improve their operations and our pricing in tandem
- Be active participants in new product design
- Logistics Coordination and follow-up
- Act as liaison with Accounts Payable to verify accuracy of charges and approve invoices for payment
- Providing guidance, training and support to other buyers
- Report monthly on assigned commodities
- Support budget/business review preparation
Position-specific Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Maintain high level of attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects without losing focus
- Able to solve new or unfamiliar problems and trouble-shoot problems independently
- Strong knowledge of AS400
- Strong knowledge of MRP processes and basic inventory principles
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel
- Strong ability to negotiate with suppliers
- Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience as a buyer
- Proven experience in strategic sourcing, procurement and contract negotiation
