With multiple sites in Shalford and Warwick, Gordon Murray Technologies continues to grow with multiple vehicle programmes currently in development. As a result, we currently have exciting opportunities for a Principle Engineer Electrical Systems to join our Electrical Team in one of our Midlands based locations.
Responsibilities:
Lead a team of Project Engineers to successfully deliver all Electrical Modules for various product line within the business
Technical ownership of Electrical Components through Engineering, development, integration and validation of various electrical modules (ECUs, Sensors and Actuators etc.) into the overall vehicle electrical architecture in collaboration with Functional Departments, technical partners and Tier 1 suppliers.
The role will require to be taking responsibility of all of the below areas with the support of project engineers as owners for electrical modules
Central Compute Unit and Zonal Controllers within top of the range zonal architecture
Body Electrical Components e.g. Door Modules, Various actuators & sensors, Electronic Toll Collection etc.
Body Security Components e.g. Body / Zonal Controller, Keys, Alcolock etc.
Own Commodity attributes such as Quality, Costs, Timing, Weight and ensure they are within business targets.
Responsible to deliver electrical modules within the budget through regular supplier liaison and tracking DVP status, meeting all legislative requirements. Escalate where required
Own Engineering Sign-off of the electrical components through the development process of DFMEA reviews, DVP creation, Test & Validation, Report reviews and sign-off
Work closely with other Principal Engineer within electrical to ensure harness routing and electrical packaging are understood and signed-off as per installation guidelines
Manage team through Fault identification and resolution including management of issues to closure though business robust 8D process.
Own and manage Engineering Change Requests and align with Purchasing and Programs for cost management.
Ensure completion of DFMEA, DFA, DFM, DVP&R (Electrical & Mechanical), PV sign-off, Engineering Sign-off through the development processes.
Lead Sub-system Design Reviews, DFMEA and Supplier FMEAs
Support various prototype and development builds including labcar / test rig build where required
Work closely with other departments such as Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Programs, Logistics, Service and workshops
Adherence to the processes or create, where required, new processes and templates to successfully manage the delivery of EDS within the business.
Manage and lead team through their career development and regular mentoring.
Development and maintenance of requirements specifications, timing plans, systems calibration and validation requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Guidance to EDS and Packaging teams to ensure that control units, modules and peripherals are correctly located and packaged in accordance with installation and wiring requirements.
Manage compliance with any necessary functional safety, legislative, electrical, environmental and EMC requirements.
Represent the Electrical Department in status meetings and engineering reviews. Also represent GMT in external working groups relating to the responsible components / ECUs.
Provision of support and training to Manufacturing and Service departments.
Manage third party supplier across various prototype / development builds
Qualifications and experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in automotive EDS development
Experience in managing a team of Engineers
Excellent understanding Automotive New Product Development Process, Milestones and deliverables for each phases
Demonstrable experience of electrical components development and manufacture for multiple projects
Good experience and thorough knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, ECUs and other electrically wired components
Working knowledge of CAN, FlexRay, automotive ethernet, LIN networks and vehicle diagnostics.
Working knowledge of relevant homologation standards, ISO26262 and EuroNCAP
Understanding of Functional Safety and Cyber Security requirements for a global market vehicle
Experience in design for good electrical and EMC performance.
Good contacts within the automotive eco-system including Tier 1 and component suppliers.
Knowledge of hybrid and full-electric electrical vehicle architectures and wiring systems would be advantageous.
Experience of visualisation using CATIA V5 or V6 or lightweight file viewers would be useful.
Excellent understanding of 2D drawings
Experience in leading DFMEA and System (Electrical Interface) Reviews
Experience in managing harness complexities, component databases (DTs)
Working knowledge of relevant regulations and standards
Extensive experience in component testing & validation process and engineering sign-off
Notable experience in using various engineering development tools (Polarion, JIRA etc.) and collaborative platforms such as Microsoft Office 365

Honors Degree in Electrical
Honors degree in similar areas such as Electronics, Control Systems, Automotive acceptable with relevant experience in the field
Other recognised engineering qualifications combined with relevant significant experience will be considered.
Additional professional qualifications of Leadership / Managerial skills and Project Management desired
