As a result, we currently have exciting opportunities for a Principal Engineer to join our Chassis Team in one of our Midland based locations. Job Description We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Engineer specialising in Chassis to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead and oversee the engineering efforts related to chassis systems, playing a key role in shaping the future of automotive technology. As a technical authority, you will drive innovation, ensure compliance with industry standards, and mentor junior engineers, all while maintaining a relentless focus on quality and performance. Responsibilities: Lead the engineering efforts for full vehicle chassis systems, including suspension, braking, steering, and pedals. Drive the design and development of chassis components, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret project requirements and develop innovative solutions that meet or exceed expectations. Conduct design sizing analysis, assembly level simulation, and work package management to ensure project milestones are met. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development. Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and best practices, integrating new technologies and methodologies into project workflows. Serve as a subject matter expert on chassis engineering, representing the organization in technical forums and industry conferences. Take ownership of key projects and initiatives, driving them to successful completion while adhering to quality, cost, and timeline objectives. Engineering responsibilities of full Vehicle Chassis Systems: Suspension Links, Corner Springs and Dampers, Roll and Heave Control, Uprights and Hubs, Wheels and Tyres, Foundation Braking, Brake Actuation, Parking Brake, Steering Systems, Pedals and Pedal Box Design sizing analysis: Sub System Loads, Joints and Interfaces, Material Selection, Bolt Calculations Qualifications and experience: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred. Extensive experience in chassis engineering within the automotive industry, with a proven track record of successful project delivery. In-depth knowledge of chassis systems and components, including suspension design, braking systems, and steering mechanisms. Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling software (e.g., CATIA, 3DX) and familiarity with design for manufacture and assembly principles. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering challenges. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Engineering council professional registration and membership in relevant professional organizations preferred.
