CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Assesses assigned patients and evaluates plans to include documentation of nursing care. Reports symptoms and changes in patients' condition and vital signs. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses, conditions, and physician orders. Reviews, evaluates, and reports diagnostic tests to assess patient's condition. Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Prepares patients for, and assists with examinations, procedures, and treatments. Considers patient age and culture during patient treatments and provides any needed information regarding treatment plan. Nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support. Performs appropriate patient tests and safely administers medications within the scope of practice. Administers and maintains accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures, and physician orders. Communicates plan of care in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e., HIPAA). Uses best practices for transition of patient care. Uses available resources to assist in discharge planning. Plans, prioritizes, and adjusts assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seeks assistance when needed. Adapts to changing work demands and environment. Safely operates medical equipment. Serves as a preceptor and assists new staff in the provision of care to help them acclimate to the healthcare environment, and a direct patient care role. Provides concise and constructive feedback when needed. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, required
CRN preferred
Certification and Licensing:
Registered Nurse License; Basic Life Support Certification (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (i.e., sanitation, decontamination etc.)
- Excellent patient experience skills
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

Department Specific Functions
Meets requirements of Radiology Nurse
Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the Radiology department as specific to the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the radiology patient is addressed.
Role Specific Competencies (Radiology Nurse):
Demonstrates the ability to perform a thorough pre-procedure and post-procedure assessment that is system focused. Ensures the preparation of the Radiology/procedural room regarding cleanliness, working condition of equipment and adequacy of supplies. Demonstrates the ability to titrate intravenous medications according to the patient's hemodynamic status. Demonstrates the ability to care for the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring including rhythm identification, interpretation, and follow through with appropriate intervention. Demonstrates competency in monitoring patients receiving IV conscious sedation. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques, and actions. Demonstrates knowledge of basic information pertaining to all radiologic procedures and exams. Demonstrates ability to safely administer sedation/analgesia and monitor patient's response under the direction of a physician. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in contrast administration, identification of a contrast reaction, and response to contrast reaction, and extravasations. Demonstrates knowledge and safe use of routine and specialty equipment while exhibiting the ability to learn and apply principles of safety. Initiates the daily restocking and maintenance of assigned procedure room in a timely and efficient manner. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in appropriate care of venous access devices and provides IV access and/or assists technologist in obtaining IV access. Provides care to patient undergoing non-interventional and interventional radiology procedures as per nursing standards, and policies & procedures. Monitors aseptic technique and implements corrective action as necessary in accordance with established policy and procedures. Able to provide pre and post exam patient education. Works collaboratively with medical, technical, and support staff. Cares for and documents all specimens and cultures in accordance with established policy and procedure. Demonstrates the ability to perform rapid assessment differentiating between short- and long-term needs. Verification of the interventional procedures, operative site, surgeon, and consents using Universal Protocol: pre-procedure verification and site/side marking. Provides inclusive report to relief and/or post anesthesia nursing team based on assessment, reassessment, and patient's response to procedural intervention. Administers and documents medications and/or narcotics safely and accurately utilizing established policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of and documents administration of blood and blood products according to established policy and procedure. Demonstrates safety in chemo bio administration as related to chemotherapeutic agents given in IR procedures, through obtaining bio/chemo certificate within one year of employment.
