POSITION: Project Engineer

Location: Dallas, TX

Job Summary:

This position provides for managing technical and commercial aspects of Wind, Solar, and Energy Storage projects by taking ownership from the development team at contractor RFP stage (30% design) and supporting the project through construction including as-built designs. This position will interface with development, development engineering, EPC, and Operations to ensure the project runs smoothly and efficiently. The position requires experience with development, design, and construction of utility scale renewable energy projects with time sensitivity in a fast-paced environment while communicating effectively.

Essential Functions:

  • Creation of project execution plans.
  • Define EPC Scope For RFP.
  • Point person for responding to bid questions.
  • Collaborate with procurement lead on evaluation of proposals.
  • Ownership of technical EPC exhibits
  • Maintain Project EPC Budget and Cash Flow with overall project manager.
  • Levelized and de-scope EPC bids and compare to budget ensuring all EPC assumptions and exclusions are budgeted.
  • Investigate value engineering opportunities.
  • Keep track of all Owner scope obligations, due dates, and ensure collectively we are meeting our obligations.
  • Ensure contractor is receiving the proper support from suppliers on installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate High Voltage schedule with contractor and utility for meeting LGIA obligations.
  • Coordinate with Development and Contractors/Consultants to ensure we are tracking and meeting obligations under the PPA.
  • Coordinate with Development on engineering inputs and schedule implications on discretionary permits as it relates to the EPC contract and EPC schedule.
  • Ensure Contractor submittals adhere to contract requirements.
  • Utilize SME/consultant for design reviews as appropriate managing design review schedule and budget.
  • Review Contractor layout and design is in line with site constraints.
  • As Move-On approaches and Project Manager and Construction Manager comes on staff, hand off project management to Project Management team and move to support mode on engineering and historical project management questions.
  • Ensure project execution plan is up to date for handoff.
  • Hold internal and external weekly meetings documenting progress and ensuring contract deliverables are on schedule.
  • Ensure documents are stored appropriately in SharePoint.
  • Ensure formal transmittals occur between all parties involved and keep a log.
  • Respond to or coordinate responses to RFIs and submittals in a timely manner.
  • Ensure contractor invoices meet contractual invoice criteria and waiver requirements
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers.
  • Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors.
  • Highly organized.
  • Understanding of civil, electrical, structural, geotechnical engineering and interdependencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
  • PE registration a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and drawings and other common specifications.
  • Ability to understand commercial documents and requirements.
  • Good understanding of current technologies for Wind Turbine, Solar Module, Solar Inverter, and Energy Storage technology offerings and suppliers.
  • Support EPC team for projects under construction.
  • Ability to contribute to lessons learned for updates to Leeward's Basis of Design.
  • 4-Year Bachelors Engineering Degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant technical experience; renewable power generation preferred.


Physical Demands:
  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
