The Analyst role in the Analytics Operations team of Firm Analytics will perform execution of data validation, research data issues to identify solutions, and implement data improvement initiatives.
The Data Analyst II is responsible for maintaining the production environment of the Business Intelligence organization. This includes managing batch schedules, facilitating automated refreshes of analytic products, and occasionally providing on call support for failures. They work in collaboration with other data analysts to build and support the production of dashboards, models, and other analytic products.
What You'll Do:
Provide actionable insights to support business decisions, primarily by performing root cause, exploratory, sensitivity and scenario analysis, hypothesis testing, economic modeling, regression, and data visualization to identify patterns/trends/insights etc. on ambiguous business problems
Merge, cleanse and transform complex data from multiple sources as needed for analysis.
Understand and apply intermediate statistical concepts
Apply critical thinking to pressure test and validate logic and outputs against known sources and understanding of business.
Independently generate and incorporate insights into a cohesive story that clearly addresses business questions. Effectively create and communicate tailored messages to the business partners regarding analytic ideas, approach, key takeaways and actionable insights.
Maintain a strong understanding of firm results & key business drivers and an understanding of key strategies & priorities of business to be able to apply business knowledge to analytic approach to address business questions.
Serve as a technical and functional data subject matter expert
Maintain a working knowledge of data flows and data sources within relational databases.
Develop and manage business relationships with project team members and leaders across the organization.
Consult with business owners to understand the business problem. Collaborate with others to identify the appropriate analytic approach to solve the problem. Consider multiple approaches and draw connections across other analytical work before proposing a path forward.
*Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.
What You'll Need:
Experience Required:
3-5 years' experience in relevant field
Previous analytical related experience is preferred. Financial Services industry experience is a plus.
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree required with an emphasis in finance, business, economics, data science, math or analytics preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered.
Functional Knowledge:
Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines
Proficiency interacting with various database and file storage systems (DB2, IDMS, Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL)
Experience with data manipulation languages such as SQL, Impala, PL/SQL, Hive, Pig, XML required
Knowledge of statistical concepts and analytic techniques, including descriptive statistics, forecasting, economic modeling, various regression techniques, exploratory analysis, and variance analysis required.
Experience with statistical tools such as SAS, SPSS, R, or Python preferred.
Experience using Microsoft Excel, including use of pivot tables, formulas, macros, vba, charts/graphs
Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBi, or Microstrategy

The Analyst must have ability to identify the question(s), what data is needed, and then analyze and interpret the results to recommend solutions to senior & executive Firm leaders for a broad spectrum of business improvement opportunities in a clear and concise manner
The Analyst must have the ability to execute on projects of a moderate to high complexity which involve cross-functional teams, and therefore must be able to collaborate well with associates and leadership throughout the firm, including external vendors.

The Analyst develops and performs moderately to highly complex analysis, typically with moderate to high business impact

While there are no direct supervisory responsibilities, coordinating with others to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines will be required
To successfully influence decision making, this position requires a deep understanding of how departments/divisions interact with one another and impact firm operations and initiatives.
