(CDWC)

is a coalition of grassroots domestic worker organizations and their supporters from the labor, faith, domestic employer, women and other grassroots communities, who are working to advance the rights of domestic workers. Domestic workers make all other work possible. They are the housecleaners, nannies, caregivers, cooks, and gardeners who care for our loved ones and our homes. In California, there are approximately 300,000 domestic workers. An estimated 2 million households hire workers to support their everyday lives – yet domestic work is too often undervalued and invisibilized. We have come together as a statewide network to build the leadership and political power of domestic workers and to ensure that statewide laws and agencies protect domestic workers from abuse. Finally, we work to inspire all Californians to uphold the dignity of domestic workers inside and outside of our homes.About the position: Development DirectorThe Development Director will lead CDWC’s fundraising strategy development and implementation to ensure that we cultivate strong relationships with our funders and have the resources we need to meet our goals aligned with CDWC’s strategic vision. They are responsible for creating and overseeing CDWC’s fundraising work plan including foundation grants, government contracts, events, outreach and individual donors. The Development Director will report to the Director of CDWC.A strong candidate for this position will have a proven track record of success in meetingambitious fundraising goals for at least 5 years. They will be a highly relational, effective communicator - adept at building trust and partnership across lines of race, class, gender, and other identities. They will be deeply rooted in equity and justice, with the belief in the stake domestic workers have in people’s movement building.ResponsibilitiesLead CDWC’s fundraising strategy and implementationIn partnership with the Director, develop goals, strategies, and a comprehensive fundraising plan with a focus on foundations, contracts, and individual donors to meet the annual operating budget needs and respond to new and changing conditionsEnsure that all fundraising activities and plans are in alignment with overall organizational strategic directionGalvanize, organize and coordinate the Director, staff, volunteers and Coalition members and supporters to actively participate in CDWC fundraising efforts, creating a culture of fundraisingFind, pursue, and secure new funding opportunities through proactive research, outreach, and relationship buildingAlongside the Director, serve as a point of contact and maintain relationships with foundation partners, and represent CDWC at key donor and foundation meetings and events, strengthening our relationships with them, keep them informed of our work and even inform their strategies, increasing the likelihood of funding renewal opportunitiesGrassroots Support and Communications StrategiesDevelop and implement strategies to expand grassroots fundraising donor cultivationPartner with the Communications Manager to develop fundraising communications plans and materials (i.e. newsletters, annual appeals, mailings, events, thank you cards and appreciation letters, etc.)Ensure that CDWC’s online presence promotes our work, raises our visibility and provides a venue for supporters to stay updated and potentially become donors.Grants and Contracts ManagementProvide strategic support, guidance and supervision in the development, maintenance and improvement of documentation and database systems in regards to grants and contractsLead the coalition’s grant writing, proposal submissions, and reportingWith the Contracts Manager, develop and maintain strong systems to track donor data, manage grant cycles, submission and reporting deadlines to ensure CDWC stays on track with all funder commitments, as well as ongoing progress on fundraising goals.Ensure that directors and staff teams are aware of the commitments we make in new contract and grant agreements and ensure when funds are received that there is clarity about new responsibilitiesWith the campaign and program teams, support the development of campaign and program evaluation tools to collect data on the impact of CDWCOversee the collection of documents necessary for the annual auditSupervision and Organizational DevelopmentSupervise the Contracts Manager: establish regular check-ins with staff to check on progress of work plans, provide feedback, and agree on goals and priorities; provide regular feedback and annual performance evaluation for supervisees and manage administrative matters of supervised personnel (approve reimbursements, timesheets, expenses, etc.)Serve as a resource and guide for staff within the organization to support them in daily tasks, as well as to support them to achieve short term and long term professional and personal goals.Participate in the recruitment and hiring process of new CDWC staff, and support staff Managers with the onboarding and orientation of new staff.In collaboration with staff leadership, provide values-aligned guidance and stewardship for the staff team, grounded in the organizational mission and vision.Required Skills and Work ExperienceTo be successful in this job, you will excel in four areas:5 years or more experience in fundraising and successful results.Fundraising expertise: You bring a proven track record of raising funds for non-profits that have an annual budget of at least $1 million, with experience developing and managing fundraising strategies and plans for a large program and/ or organization through a combination of grantseeking and individual donor fundraising. You have successfully recruited and secured new foundation partners and possess the knowledge and comfort to oversee all aspects of the grantseeking process.Project management: You have the ability to develop goals and plans that engage multiple stakeholders, juggle multiple complex streams of work in a remote work, program and campaign environment, make smart judgment calls on where to prioritize and when to pivot, all while keeping the big picture in mind. You are grounded in a strong sense of ownership, adaptability, and resilience.Relationship building: You have a track record of building strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, across race, gender, and other identities. You bring an enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people, listening closely to understand needs or concerns, and seeking out opportunities for collaboration. You build trust through consistently showing up and following through with commitments.Strong written, verbal communication and editing skills: You are an adept storyteller with the ability to develop a compelling pitch (both written and verbally) tailored to the interests and needs of a particular audience or stakeholder. You have the ability to capture the voices of domestic worker leaders in CDWC and produce high-quality written materials with sharp attention to detail.Mission & values alignment: You are motivated by CDWC’s mission, vision, and values.You are grounded in justice and equity, recognizing how race and other identities intersect in the work, especially with communities we serve. You actively work to minimize inequities in work products, decisions, policies, processes and are comfortable working in a highly collaborative organization, with shared leadership.Nice-to-Have Skills and ExperiencePre-existing knowledge of and relationships with funders that are invested in immigrant low-wage women workers.Understanding and experience with non-profit grassroots peoples movementsAn understanding of social movements historically and in the current momentAn understanding of legislative advocacy landscape and government program contractsSalary & BenefitsThis is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. The CDWC team works a 40-hour work week. The salary range for this position is between $85,000 and $95,000 annually, DOE.Our central operations are based in SF, Oakland and Downtown LA, and your primary residence may be located in Southern California or Northern California.
