Our global manufacturing client is seeking qualified candidates for the new position of Environmental Specialist. This opportunity has strong promotional potential for a managerial role in this plant within the next 2 years or so.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position has a focus on Environmental duties with secondary responsibilities in Safety. Reporting to the plant EHS Manager, this role will ensure training and compliance of regulatory laws are top priority. This facility has a culture of education, adherence and accountability.

Environmental

  • Responsible and accountable for ensuring that all departments are operated in a manner consistent with the corporate environmental policy.
  • Ensures full compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Prevents pollution wherever possible
  • Regularly audit environmental data prior to external reports to EPA and IEPA including all necessary calculation reviews
  • Ensure all pertinent reports are ready and submitted timely to external institutions.
  • Keep the Environmental data updated in the Group`s system, including CO2 Emissions dash boards
  • Conduct environmental monitoring for storm water and sanitary sewers
  • Assist with hazardous material training and usage in compliance with applicable regulations. · Assist in all aspects of Environmental duties

Safety

  • Hearing Conservation, Hazard Communications, Respiratory Protection, Lift Truck Operator Training, LOTO Procedures, Emergency Response, Evacuation Plan, SWPPP, SPCC, ERP etc.).
  • Ensure Key Safety Leadership Behaviors, all safety rules, policies and procedures are met in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure communication of corporate standards for safe work behavior and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate the generation and reporting of accurate statistical measurements of injuries and illnesses on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring for plant.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in a hard science, Environmental Management, and/or Occupational Health
  • 3 years minimum experience in an Environmental position in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with air permitting is required (understanding the requirements, data collection and input)
  • Strong background and knowledge in EPA compliance
  • Little to no safety experience is required as that would be trained. Candidates must have interest and passion for safety
  • Ability to train others in classroom setting and shop floor environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrent with day-to-day activities.
  • Perform in a “continuous” (24/7) facility operation.
  • Strong people and communication skills.
