Large Group Benefit Consultant

Position Summary

The Large Group Benefit Consultant is responsible for attaining large group sales objectives for Health Options within a defined book of brokers. The Benefit Consultant works strategically with the Group Sales Manager and appointed brokers in writing and renewing large group business in accordance with all regulatory requirements. This includes achieving new business sales objectives and retention goals by driving demand for large group products while ensuring client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements sales strategies to achieve and exceed membership projections and growth.
  • Identifies and analyzes plan risk associated with any policy and suggests solutions to minimize risks.
  • Sells Health Options plans in a defined territory and meets monthly new business and retention quota objectives.
  • Explains the features and advantages of Health Options policies to promote the sale of our products with brokers to local Maine businesses.
  • Develops and maintains critical relationships with brokers, large businesses/employers using a consultative and educational approach coupled with relationship building techniques.
  • Develops additional distribution channels as directed.
  • Provides training and education on our products and services to brokers, businesses, and covered employees.
  • Participates in underwriting committee meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Attends meetings with Brokers and employers and provide enrollment education, plan education and wellness guidance.
  • Works closely with other departments to develop marketing materials, promotional strategies, and to generate brand awareness across the state.
  • Works with the Director, Business Development to achieve budgeted results.
  • Coordinates with other departments, informing them of enrollment forecasts, and to ensure an optimal operational capacity that will meet customer needs.
  • Seeks out new clients and develops prospects by networking. Finds new customers and generates lists of prospective clients.
  • Participates in local chamber and business to business events representing Health Options.
  • Establishes, maintains, and reports progress on a "live" pipeline of prospects.
  • Maintains knowledge of competitor's services and marketing tactics.
  • Provides a coordinated and positive after sales service, including collaborating with Account Managers for member satisfaction efforts.
  • Actively participates in idea generation and efforts to boost sales and improve service.
  • Maintains accurate and timely sales records to derive meaningful revenue projections.
  • Shares customer feedback in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Responsible for large group renewal reporting.
Key Competencies:

The Large Group Benefit Consultant will represent Health Options and sell our products with integrity, discipline, organization, and proficiency. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, highly effective with strong persuasive and presentation skills and must have the ability to work under pressure. It is essential that the Large Group Benefit Consultant effectively multi-task.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the marketing field.
  • Five or more years of experience in healthcare sales and group insurance sales with demonstrated success.
  • Experience with large group business offerings.
  • License/Certifications: Maine Life and Health Insurance License and others upon request.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Strong relationships with brokers and consultants strongly preferred.
  • Significant understanding of health plan services and operations.
  • Understanding of the needs and interests of Maine businesses.
  • Strong consultative and relationship-building skills.
Location:
  • Maine-based, or within reasonable driving distance , position requires meeting with brokers and clients within Maine. Travel required.
