SUMMARY

Performs a wide range of piping system repairs, fabrication, maintenance welding and cutting in an industrial plant using a variety of welding techniques. Must be able to understand and follow safe work practices and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works from engineering drawings, sketches, and other specifications, plus verbal instructions.

Positions and secures parts using jigs and fixtures as appropriate.

Ability to weld in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW processes. Testing includes 6G position per ASME code.

Selects appropriate welding equipment/process.

Sets up and adjusts equipment and controls to regulate gas pressure, voltage, or amperage.

Welds predominantly common alloys, such as plate, pipe, tube, and rod, allowing for the effect of heat to produce true warp free joints.

Inspects and assesses quality of weld, taking account of function of joint.

Sketch piping systems for repair or new installation.

Prepare and fabricate piping systems for welding

Piping system repairs such as valve and other component replacements.

Properly assemble and torque bolted flange assemblies.

Efforts Demanded: Lifting up to 50 lbs., frequent walking, bending, stooping, balancing, ascending and descending ladders, operating various mobile equipment, pulling, crouching, twisting and reaching.

Plan, organize and carry out a major pipe and repair or installation jobs

Must be able to work in unison with other craftsmen to accomplish job objectives.

Knowledge of SAP preferred

Ability to plan mechanical work

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required. Craft NCCER or equivalent with minimum of four years' experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Possess good communication skills for interaction with all chemical plant employees.

Ability to receive verbal and written direction including plant safety rules, policies and procedures and implement without direct supervision.
