aPOSITION SUMMARY:Plans, develops directs and coordinates the orientation and in-service education program for all nursing employees to include staffing; assists other department managers as required. Actively involved with the planning, development, organization, implementation, coordination, and direction of the quality assurance and assessment program designed to enhance the quality of resident care, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility. Involved in human resources aspects of the facility including recruitment and retention of employees as well as employee counselling and progressive disciplinary actions. Coordinate CNA class.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assignedAssesses department needs for training and responds accordinglyOrients new staff members and provides on-going training for employeesSchedules training programs and in-services for all employeesLecture's and demonstrates procedures, using slides, video, power point and charts; uses outside consultants/speakers when possibleObserves employees in practical application of procedures and does one-to-one training as neededMaintains appropriate documentation of orientation and in-service training for all employeesFollows through with new employees at regular intervals to determine need for additional training and supportCommunicates department needs to Director of Nursing and coordinates services within department need, scheduling and budgetGives input to Director of Nursing regarding budget needsEvaluate programs, propose and effect changes as necessary to improve programs and assure compliance Communicate revised plans and changes to facility management to maintain awarenessCoordinate concurrent review studies performed within the quality assurance program, prepare resulting reports as requiredDevelop and implement appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficienciesRepresent the facility at and participate in meetings as directedAssist in developing follow-up procedures for monitoring identified problem areasMaintain a reference library of written quality assessment and assurance material, laws, etc., necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and that will provide assistance in maintaining quality resident careMake written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing and Administrator, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the quality assessment and assurance departmentAssist in identifying and classifying procedures in which potential exposure to blood/body fluids may occur. Update as necessaryCoordinates employee service awards and recognition programsMonitors safe working practices; provides education and coordinates with Safety Committee for corrective/preventive actionsMaintains effective communication with residents, families and facility staffCommunicates with and educates staff on any new proceduresAssists with development of procedures using job analysis techniqueStays current in standard practices through communication with Health Department, C.D.C., etcDevelops and posts work schedules at least two weeks prior to schedule startContacts replacement personnel and modifies schedule when requiredMaintains a current listing of employee contact numbers for call-inCoordinates time off requests with Director of NursingNotifies Director of Nursing of short staffing situationsMaintains a record of employees that miss shifts/late and produces reportConducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Employee Handbook, facility policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standardsEnsure Safety for all ResidentsPerform other tasks as assignedQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
