JOB PURPOSE

Supports the educational and maker initiatives of LPCPL as part of the Community Learning Team with a focus on day-to-day operation of the maker and collaboration space known as the LPCPL Exchange

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides first point of contact for customers and in person requests for assistance

Works in collaboration with staff to plan, conduct, and promote, library classes, events, and initiatives

Works with customers and staff using a problem-solving mindset with demonstrated ability to overcome design challenges involving critical thinking, decision-making, creativity, and information processing

Leads projects as assigned

Maintains customer accounts

Participates in routine basic maintenance of maker and STEAM equipment

Manages reservations for use of spaces and equipment

Performs duties required for set up, clean up, and resupply for classes and events.

Inventories and maintains the various toolkits and workstations in the makerspace

Assists with training and coordinating volunteers and interns, and assigns work as needed

Performs safety and mechanical inspections as required

Creates a safe and clean environment for customers and staff, and monitors and reports issues with cleaning, mechanical systems, and building issues

Applies Code of Conduct policy consistently with all customers

Abides by established policies and procedures

Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

You have a high school diploma or equivalent and specialized training applicable to position

One-year experience with makerspaces or similar facilities preferred

You have a valid driver's license

You will be required to complete specialized training on maker and STEAM equipment

You are comfortable and confident working in an environment with a variety of hardware devices and software products, and willingness to learn new technologies

You are able to think on your feet and know when to seek help

You use independent judgement

You have previously worked in customer service for one year

You organize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines

You travel to all locations, as needed

You welcome working with all people in the community

You are positive, adaptable, and forward thinking

You display appropriate demeanor at all times; this includes dress, body language, and facial expressions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Mobility: Frequently lifts and carries 10-50 pounds; occasionally pushes/pulls 50+ pounds using cart; regularly sits and stands to do work; occasionally kneels, squats, bends, twists, grasps, and reaches above shoulders to move materials

Works in a well-lit, and adequately ventilated environment requiring the observance of safe work practices, fire regulations, and avoidance of falls, trips, and similar shop/lab hazards

Environmental exposures: exhaust fumes, odors, dust particles while cleaning various equipment; temperature fluctuations; noise level is moderate normally; louder noise levels during use of makerspace equipment

Works around moving machinery including 3D printers, laser cutting, sewing, electronics, lathes, and the use of basic hand tools in a lab or educational setting

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): gloves, goggles, masks

Office environment; exposure to materials returned in unfavorable conditions

Vision abilities include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception

Must be able to respond to fire alarms, warning sirens, and phone pages
