On-site short-term housing may be an option for successful candidates.

Job Duties

This position requires project coordination, field and laboratory data collection, management, and analysis to help achieve the goals and objectives of the Libby Darn Mitigation Project that are developed by the Libby Dam Mitigation Coordinator, Project Biologist, and Region One Fish Manager. This position is part of a large regional fisheries team and as a member of that team, the technician must work effectively with individuals and groups to pursue collective solutions and project goals. Good written and oral communication skills are required to be an effective member of this team.

This work includes a diverse set of working conditions and requires a broad knowledge of sampling gears to monitor habitat conditions, water quality, capture fish and lower trophic organisms that support fish populations inhabiting waters within the Kootenai Watershed. This technician also assists regional staff to implement research and mitigation measures including fish removal projects and habitat restoration efforts to offset impacts caused by the construction and operation of Libby Dam. Achieving these goals will require the technician to work with supervisor and other staff members to develop and coordinate field and laboratory sampling events to ensure efficient and thorough surveys. The technician works with minimal or no direct supervision and, as necessary, evaluates the situation and determines the best approach for data collection according to planned sampling designs. The technician is also responsible for managing much of these data which requires proficiency with standard software and existing databases. The technician completes basic analysis of samples collected using laboratory equipment. Assists in the preparation of and reviews draft versions of reports.
