The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting staff to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year end audit preparation.

The position requires good planning, communication, reasonable judgment, analytical, and leadership skills. This position interacts with all levels of the organization. A successful candidate would have strong computer skills, attention to detail and be a team player. Candidate should have a flexible work schedule and the ability to work additional hours during surge or accounting close weeks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of the accounting staff to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

•Initiatives the selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and performance development of employees by clearly communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures

•Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff

•Oversees the daily accounting activities required for financial reporting

•Oversees accounts payable and fixed assets

•Ensures that internal controls are in place to provide assurance that the financial information is accurate and reliable

•Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy

•Coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities

•Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close

•Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly or other financial information

•Prepares financial management reports, including balance sheet, income statement, and other statements and to examine and verify financial documents and reports

•Prepares, reviews, or approves account reconciliations

•Maintains organized set of detailed records and files to document financial transactions

•Works with department heads to ensure a clean and timely year end audit

•Supports audit and tax preparation requirements and coordination with external parties

•Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department

•Collaborates with the other accounting department managers to support overall department goals and objectives

•Preparation and/or approval of various tax filings

•Supports department heads with special projects and workflow process improvements

Requirements

Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting or equivalent. Minimum 7+ years of accounting experience required; financial statement knowledge and preparation.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

•Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and principles

•Strong understanding of accounting theory

•Knowledge of financial reporting

•Knowledge and experience of accounting computer applications

•Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office with a primary focus on Microsoft Excel

•Strong leadership skills, including the ability to effectively direct and supervise

•Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely manner

•Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures

•Effective decision making

•Possess outstanding time management skills, deadline oriented, and takes initiative (self-starter) to meet assigned deadlines

•Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions

•Ability to prioritize changing workload

•Must be able to effectively handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a deadline driven environment

•Ability to multi-task and perform accurate, quality work with interruptions and minimal supervision and change priorities as needed

•Strong organizational skills and disciplined accuracy

•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
