The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s missions to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health, with a focus on expanding the Department’s clinical and research program in neonatal follow up and outcomes. The institution plans to invest in the development of the state of the art neurodevelopmental follow up program with corresponding quality improvement and research activities. The McGovern Medical School is located in theTexas Medical Center (TMC), Houston, Texas. The primary clinical site for the neonatology program is theChildren’s Memorial Hermann Hospital (CMHH), a 332-bed Children’s and Women’s quaternary care facility with Level IV Maternal andNeonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)designation and a Level I Pediatric Trauma and Surgery Center. Both the CMHH and TMC offer an unparalleled clinical and academic environment for the care of the children of Greater Houston, one of the fastest growing and most diverse cities in the nation. The Division of Neonatology services extend into the community at an additional six Level II and II NICUs across the Memorial Hermann system and theLyndon Baines Johnson Hospital, Harris Health System. POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: This full-time position will report to the Chief, Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics. In this role, the successful candidate will: · Lead the future vision and expansion of the strong foundation of neonatal follow up clinics at UTHealth. Appropriate institutional resources for the development of this program will be provided. · Participate in clinical research conducted in the Division of Neonatology aligned with the candidate’s research interests. UTHealth is one of 15 U.S. sites of theNICHD Neonatal Research Network, and one of 7 that are also a member of theNICHD Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Network. UTHealth also participates in follow-up studies for theNIH ECHO Programin addition to a wide range of basic, translational, clinical, and public health research related to neonatal and infant health and medical care. The research facilities of the Division, Department, and University are extensive and the overall research environment in the Texas Medical Center is excellent and collaborative. · Provide direct patient care as part of a skilled team of neonatology faculty and neonatal nurse practitioners in the 118-bed Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and at the Level III NICU at Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital (Harris Health System). Our clinicians care for highly complex populations of neonates, including extremely preterm infants and those cared for by theFetal Center at UTHealth Houston, one of the largest fetal medicine programs in the nation, theChildren’s Heart Institute (CHI), and other cutting-edge clinical programs. · Supervise and educate medical students, residents, and fellows in the care of NICU patients in both the acute hospital setting and in follow up clinic settings. · Develop and sustain an environment in the patient care units that support excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes to include excellent risk-adjusted outcomes. · Serve as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills. · Delegate authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies, and organizational policies and procedures. · Participate in and/or chairing committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS: · The selected candidate for the position must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License. · Board certification/eligibility in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine required. · The successful applicant will have track record of success in program development, research and scholarly achievement, as well as recognition as a leader and innovator in neonatal care and outcomes.
