Job Description Virginia National Bank is looking for an experienced Senior Credit Analyst to join the underwriting team in our Credit Department, a position that will directly report to the Credit Administration Manager. The scope of credit analyses will include, but will not be limited to, spreading financial statements of borrowing entities and related guarantors, analyzing cash flow capacity, assessing the adequacy and efficacy of credit structure and engaging in any other meaningful type of analysis (i.e. strategic, accounting, financial, prospective, compliance) relevant to the assessment of repayment capacity, as well as identification and mitigation of credit risk. Primary Responsibilities Analyze and spread financial data from tax returns, financial statements, credit bureau reports, appraisals, leases, due diligence reports, and other sources Analyze the borrower and guarantors of a loan relationship to determine sources, quantity, and reliability of current and future cash flows that will support the repayment of debt to the Bank Evaluate the quality and sufficiency of collateral, with recognition of the risks and liquidity associated with different types of collateral Provide clear, concise, and objective written credit risk assessments (including written narratives) to aid in loan review and decisioning Consider and quantify risks of potential adverse events in the context of credit requests, as well as highlight and/or suggest ways the Bank can mitigate those risks Identify existing or potential strengths and weaknesses associated with credit requests Confidently communicate with Loan Officers and/or Lending Assistants to obtain necessary information and documentation to assess creditworthiness of borrowers Ability to confidently communicate with external auditors periodically Maintain a thorough understanding of the regulatory environment as it applies to underwriting most forms of consumer and commercial credit transactions. Maintain a thorough understanding of Bank loan policy and procedures followed in the credit department, and offer suggestions for policy and process improvement Perform financial covenant testing, annual cash flow reviews for large credits, and other credit department tasks Complete routine annual reviews of existing customers Assist in the training and mentoring of junior and/or newly-hired credit analysts Qualifications (Education and Experience): BA degree in business or quantitative area of study such as finance, economics, statistics or accounting or five years in related field. At least 3-5 years of experience in commercial credit analysis/underwriting preferred Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, business financial statements, sources of company and personal cash flow, debt and repayment structure, and loan pricing Ability to make accurate assessments of credit quality by identifying and analyzing both existing and potential risk factors Strong understanding of organizational structures, loan documentation, collateral types, and collateral assessment methodologies Qualifications (Abilities and Skills): Strong oral and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team approach Good organization and time management skills where multi-tasking, prioritizing, and accuracy are essential Ability to work well in a high volume and high pressure time-sensitive environment Ability to analyze market data and assess credit quality impact Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office tools (with a high level of proficiency in MS Excel) Excellent analytical/financial analysis skills including financial ratio analysis Full-time with competitive pay and excellent fringe benefits package (medical, dental, life, 401k, etc.).
