Austin, United States University of Texas at Austin Full time
Description

The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with Integral Care, seeks a board certified/eligible psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty focused on the treatment of addiction. We seek a physician who will work with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. Importantly, the Department is leading efforts at the University of Texas-Austin to execute cutting-edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments for psychiatric disorders.

To help us achieve these goals, we seek candidates who are committed to providing care within a growing community and have a strong record of providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope, and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives. A clinical assignment will occur through our department's collaboration with Integral Care. A leading Local Mental Health Authority in the State of Texas, Integral Care is Joint Commission accredited and prides itself on continually advancing services, primary care integration, and developing model programs to meet the needs of Travis County residents with severe and persistent mental illness. In addition, Integral Care is designated a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) through SAMHSA. Integral Care and Dell Medical School also offer a ACGME approved addiction psychiatry fellowship program, sponsored by a 5 years Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant. Primary responsibilities will include providing world-class medicine and clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of substance use disorders. It is expected that the successful candidate will serve as a key faculty member in the addiction psychiatry fellowship as well as support the general adult residency program. Additional partnership with the VA, with opportunities for research activity are also available and would be encouraged.

The successful candidate's appointment within the department requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents. In addition, the physician will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing development of training programs and collaborations that allow for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.

Dell Medical School, the first new medical school built at a tier one research university in nearly fifty years, welcomed its inaugural class in 2016. We are committed to redesigning academic medicine and revolutionizing how people get and stay healthy, by educating leaders, developing new models of care, and advancing innovation from health products to health care delivery.
