**Job Details** **Description** **Job Summary:** Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for commodity planning supplier selection, negotiating and buying of packaging to ensure that the Companys operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery to ensure continuity of supply. As an important business partner, this individual will execute sourcing initiatives, manage internal customer service expectations, ensure materials are accurately ordered, received, and expedited in a timely and efficient manner. **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** * Research, select and purchase quality materials * Manage an optimal level of inventory for commodities, including vendor managed inventory initiatives * Assist with ERP system development, utilization, and refinement * Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions * Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for best pricing * Act as a critical business partner to all departments to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction * Work with plants to identify opportunities that support manufacturing efficiencies * Work with Finance to support P&L scenarios for new and on-going commodities/projects. * Support Marketing new product and restage initiatives * Be an active participant in defining and implementing best practices in procurement, including the establishment and effective use of procedures and work instructions. * Lead qualifications efforts for alternate supplies / materials as needed * Develop strategic supplier partnerships, including an optimized supply base and buy plan. * Report supplier metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, and inventory * Execute and conduct Supplier Reviews for top suppliers * Support Purchasing Agreements and Supplier Contracts * Assist other Buyers in the department where needed * Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, such as when there is a risk to meeting customer demand and / or capacity concerns * Provide assistance to Supply Chain Management as needed **Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:** * Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related field * 2-4 years of experience in a purchasing role with exposure to supply chain management, preferably within the consumer goods industry * Experience with ERP systems required * Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities * Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite * APICs Certification (CSCP a plus) **Travel Requirements:** * Approximately 10% travel (Plants, Supplier Visits) **Physical Requirements:** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
