Under the general supervision of the Adult Day Services (ADS) office coordinator and facilities manager (split of approximately 70%/30%), the Catholic Charities fleet transportation coordinator works to assure that all vehicles in the agency's fleet are safe and in good working order. Responsible for vehicle maintenance, coordination with outside maintenance vendors, recordkeeping, and keeping up to date on transportation regulations as applicable. Position offices at ADS and travels to other locations.

ADS Transportation Responsibilities (Approximately 70% Time Allocation)

  • Ensure ADS fleet and drivers with commercial licenses comply with DOT, FMCSA, any other regulatory bodies and/or company policies.
  • Maintain appropriate route schedules within time determined following established routes.
  • Create and distribute route manifest, outing and activity sheets.
  • Adjust routes to meet the demands of adding/removing passengers, driver shortages, staff turnover or illness and vehicle maintenance issues.
  • Weekly maintenance and safety inspections including tire pressure and vehicle fluid levels.
  • Schedule vehicles for routine maintenance and report to the supervisor/program director any need for repairs.
  • Clean inside and outside of all vehicles on a weekly basis including wheelchair tie down tracks to ensure proper and safe transport of participants.
  • Record vehicle expenses, including fuel and maintenance records.
  • Calculate and record daily ride totals.
  • Monitor the age, condition, operating reliability, and cost of all vehicles, evaluate the need to replace any vehicles that have outlived their economic life, and recommend such to senior director of finance.
  • Attend meetings related to transportation.
  • Work with the senior director of finance to coordinate all insurance claims, including filing claims, responding to insurance company queries, and coordinating the covered repairs.
  • In collaboration with the ADS office coordinator and program director, review, develop and revise transportation policies.
  • Ensure tags and insurance policies are renewed in advance of renewal due dates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Ministry Transportation Responsibilities (Approximately 30% Time Allocation)

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • General knowledge of vehicle maintenance required.
  • Minimum five months of driving experience required.
  • Experience inspecting vehicles equipment and equipment, to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing bus, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles preferred.
  • Experience in preparing and submitting reports to regulatory bodies preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and ability to inspect and maintain vehicles.
  • Familiarity with city streets or ability to read maps and follow directions.
  • Training in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation preferred.
Certification, Registration or License
  • Valid Kansas class C driver's license.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles of 16 passenger capacity or more and passenger endorsement, within six months of employment.
Exposures
  • Blended exposure to outside elements and weather exposures inherent to continuous driving in residential and commercial areas with noise/vibrations from motorized vehicle.
  • Work environment with noise/vibrations from general office equipment.
  • Minimal exposure to fumes/dust/odors.
  • Requires extensive work using a computer.
Physical Demands
  • Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
