Job SummaryInfection Control and Employee Health activities are assigned to a professional with qualifications in nursing, public health or a laboratory sciences background.The Infection Control manager is assigned the responsibility of coordinating activities of professional and non-professional personnel in providing and improving services in the area of Infection Control.The program for the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections is hospital-wide.Working in Infection Control requires hospital-wide collaboration and teamwork within the department.OCH Regional Medical Center has an Infection Control professional who devotes 40 hours per week to surveillance, prevention, and control activities.QualificationsDegree from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as a registered nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Mississippi Board of Nursing. Also may have a bachelor's degree in public health related majors, or have a background in laboratory sciences or equivalent.CIC certified (or pursuing CIC after 2 years of full-time employment).Participates in continuing education programs concerning Infection ControlJob RelationshipsResponsible to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), following the OCH chain of command.Physical DemandsNote:"Occasionally" = 1% to 33% of the workday"Frequently" = 34% to 66% of the workday"Continuously" = 67% to 100% of the workdayThis may also be described as:Once every 3 minutes = "Occasionally"; Once every 1 ½ to 3 minutes = "Frequently"; Once every 1 ½ minutes to continuous work = "Continuous"Standing/Walking = Occasional. The nurse is on his/her feet for part of the day to perform surveillance activities, such as making rounds on units.Sitting = Frequent. The nurse is required to sit at a desk for surveillance activities, filing, reading lab reports, etc.Bending = Occasional.Climbing/Reaching = Occasional. Employee should be able to climb a small ladder or step stool when placing supplies on storage shelves, filing cabinets, etc.Employee should be able to reach in order to place supplies and equipment on storage shelves or filing cabinets.Push/Pull = Occasional. The employee occasionally performs push/pull motion when transporting audio/visual equipment and using filing cabinets.Handling/Lifting 0-50 pounds: Occasional; 50-100 pounds: Manual DexterityHands: Both fine and gross motor skills are needed in areas such as writing, typing, vaccine administration, TB skin testing, using office equipment, and filing.Simple grasp = ContinuousFirm grasp = OccasionalFine manipulation = FrequentFeetStanding and walking = occasional or frequentSpeaking/Hearing/Seeing = ContinuousSpeaking: Must be able to communicate verbally with coworkers, patients, visitors, and the general public.Must demonstrate excellent verbal skills and ability to communicate effectively with large groups.Hearing: Must be able to hear normal communication with/without correction.Seeing: Should have 20/20 vision with corrective lenses.Patient PopulationThe patient population served by Infection Control includes all individuals receiving inpatient and outpatient care at OCH Regional Medical Center and its associated clinics, as well as all OCH Regional Medical Center employees.
