As a Benefits Specialist within Senecas HR Compliance and People Services team, you will partner with our Lead Benefits Specialist to support our employees with accessing and understanding their comprehensive benefits package. As our Benefits Specialist you are a key point of contact for benefits education and administration. You will provide excellent customer service, assist with benefits education and enrollment, collaborate with our Lead Benefits Specialist and benefit brokers to navigate complex benefits issues, assist with leave of absence inquiries, and ensure compliance with all required regulations. Responsibilities:
  • Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, and wellness benefits.
  • Coordinate benefits processing, including enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, and all other benefits requirements.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general questions.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system.
  • Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims or plan changes.
  • Processes and administers leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Lead meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices.
  • Collaborate with Payroll department to ensure benefits premiums are collected during leave of absences.
  • Ensure compliance with Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
Qualifications:
  • Experience/education requirements:
    • Bachelors degree OR
    • Associates degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable work experience
  • Minimum 1 year of HR experience specializing in employee benefits
  • Previous non-profit experience is a plus
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification or equivalent credential a plus.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products; experience with HRIS (particularly UKG / UltiPro) and benefits databases.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, COBRA, FMLA, a plus.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • TB test, fingerprinting clearance, and all other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster.
Schedule:
  • Full-time.
  • Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm.
  • Hybrid work schedule
    • 2 days a week at Seneca Golf Links Campus in Oakland, CA
Benefits:
  • Starting range is $34.94 - $37.44 per hour. Actual salary is dependent on creditable experience and/or education, above the minimum qualifications for the role.
