Overview

We are looking for an Engineer to work with Agency of Natural Resources, Drinking Water Program. You will be working closely with a team of experienced drinking water engineers, hydrogeologists, and analysts, and your work will be focused on protecting public health and the environment through the technical review and permitting of drinking water infrastructure improvements for Public Water Systems.

  • You like the role of technical review and engineering project manager, reviewing and providing insight about preliminary engineering design, asset management plans, engineering services agreements, and capital improvement plans,
  • You have an eye for details when reviewing planning reports, final design plans and specifications, and occasionally conducting on-site inspections of public drinking water systems,
  • You like helping others. You are patient and level-headed when providing technical and regulatory assistance to Vermont's public drinking water systems and their engineering consultants, and
  • You are motivated and driven. You volunteer for new challenges without waiting to be asked. You take ownership of your projects and tasks, and want to make a difference.

The Agency of Natural Resources and drinking water program has an employee-friendly telework policy, requiring staff (once trained) to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from their productive home offices. This position is a permanent position. When considering salary, remember that work schedule is flexible and more than 80 hours per pay period is rarely necessary and always compensated and that comprehensive benefits are worth up to 30% of your total compensation.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND six (6) years of more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.

OR

One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer V or two (2) years or more as an Environmental Engineer IV.

OR

Registration as a Professional Engineer in Vermont, by written examination, in the fields of civil, civil/sanitary, environmental or sanitary engineering AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
