Consumer Lending Manager

SUMMARY
To assist the credit union in achieving its mission statement, "PFCU WILL DELIVER FINANCIAL WELL-BEING WITH VALUE, CONVENIENCE AND EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE," the Consumer Lending Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of PFCU's comprehensive consumer lending program to align with the credit union's strategic objectives and goals. To execute on this expectation, they will be responsible for lending decisions; approves, denies or counter-offers approval of borrower's applications for credit or extension of lines of credit, consumer credit loans, or credit card accounts according to existing loan policy. The Consumer Loan Manger will lead the Consumer Lending Processing and Underwriting teams to achieve growth and meet established goals by monitoring performance metrics and analyzing daily interactions to meet member financial needs. Support, model & adhere to PFCU's Service Standards as outlined in My MARC.
This position is a hybrid role, requiring employee to come in to the Portland PFCU headquarter branch.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the daily operations of the department, including scheduling to meet department needs and timeclock approval and monitoring.
- Maintain atmosphere that encourages cross selling and positive attitude, self-motivated and well trained employees, through coaching, communication and department meetings.
- Provide leadership oversight for Consumer Loan Processors and Underwriters.
- Meet with Consumer Loan Processors and Underwriters monthly to provide customized coaching and mentorship in performance. Set goals and assist employees with developing plans for continual growth and success within their position.
- Monitor employees' performance; conduct performance appraisals in a timely manner; provides encouragement and recognition for outstanding performance.
- Communicate credit union goals and direction with all employees to ensure clear understanding of rules, regulations, requirements and expectations.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of consumer loan trends and conditions that may affect the credit union's consumer loan department and provide feedback to the Chief Lending Officer and VP of Lending.
- Assist employees with members. Ability to perform all duties of a Lending Processor and Underwriter.
- Accept, approve, deny or counter-offer loan and membership applications as needed.
- Build a solid profitable loan from a completed loan application prepared by the Lending Originator.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of CU lending policy and interest rates and be capable of discussing various loan alternatives with Originators and Underwriters. Must support cross sales of Originators by identifying and documenting products and services members qualify for on applications reviewed.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all products and services offered by PFCU.
- Provide service and support to the Originating Team ensuring they understand reasoning for denials and counter- offers and can fully explain the decision to the member.
- Participate in the development and facilitation of presentations to employees including preparing for and conducting regular daily, weekly and full staff meetings. Discuss My Marc, PFCU's Service expectations, opportunities for improvement, product knowledge, and changes in procedure or policy along with any general information for discussion.
- Train new employees as the SME (subject matter expert).
- Review loan processing queues, funding times, indirect loan funding queues, and loan notes.
- Review loan decisions for soundness and complete a quarterly quality control review, to be provided to the VP of Lending.
- Observe employees as needed. This observation should include listening to them on the phone and in person with dealers and staff.
- Resolve dealership and employee complaints involving loan decisions.
- Manage the processing of loan applications, corrections of errors, and support of the dealer relationship accounting monthly.
- Maintain cleanliness and security of work area and equipment including protecting the confidentiality of member information.
- Seek training opportunities to develop or enhance through training, conferences, reading etc. Willingly participate in and attend educational functions and meetings as requested by management.
- Ensure compliance with all governing regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act and UDAAP requirements.

Follows regulatory and policy compliance requirements which would include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), Red Flag and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, and other compliance related policies.

Financial transactions are confidential and private. With account access, employees are to handle member information responsibly and confidentially.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements
A two-year degree in a similar or related field, or achievement of formalized certifications recognized in the industry equivalent to a two year degree. A combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Work Experience
Five to eight years of similar or related experience, with leadership experience required, and a minimum of three years' experience as an Underwriter.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, members, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the capability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.
Other Skills & Abilities
- Ability to creatively structure good performing loans within PFCU policies and procedures. Excellent understanding of lending policies and procedures.
- Able to make decisions and recommendations.
