Overview:
Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Development, which entails a commitment to supporting, organizing, and enhancing faculty-related functions and activities. The Associate Provost will offer strategic leadership, guidance and support to faculty and senior administrators on matters that impact faculty roles and responsibilities. As the primary liaison to the provost regarding faculty matters, the associate provost will champion excellence, diversity, well-being, and professional integrity of the faculty. This role involves leadership for a wide range of activities vital for faculty success, including but not limited to: processes and initiatives for faculty hiring; orientation; retention; reappointment, tenure and promotion; awards; leaves; and professional development. The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Development will oversee the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) a collaborative unit promoting interdisciplinary learning, engagement, and scholarship. OFA's shared mission is to Empower, Elevate, and Expand Faculty Excellence.

Responsibilities:
•Serves as a key member of the Academic Affairs senior leadership team with responsibility for key strategic initiatives in the Provost's Office
•Oversees the Office of Faculty Affairs as a cross-teams unit advancing interdisciplinary learning, engagement, and scholarship
•Provides leadership and strategic vision in support of faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement
•Oversees the onboarding of new faculty members via the New Faculty Academy and related efforts
•Work with the provost and vice president for inclusive excellence to advance the university's goals of building an inclusive excellence driven campus for faculty and academic affairs staff, especially those from under-represented groups.
•Stewards' investments in faculty scholarship and professional development
•Works closely with faculty fellow to support faculty candidates and review committees to manage the faculty reappointment, promotion and tenure (RPT) processes
•Support daily operations related to faculty affairs, including serving as a point person for provost office communications to the faculty
•Coordinates institution-wide faculty development efforts that ensure a consistent, thoughtful, and accessible suite of resources available to faculty at all stages in their career. Collaborate with various stakeholders such as department chairs, schools, Human Resources, and others to implement professional development programs.
•Collaborates with Human Resources and school-based leadership to address concerns related to faculty conflict, grievances, performance improvement, and behavior in compliance with university policy, applicable laws, and regulations
•Oversees key aspects of Academic Affairs approvals such as chair appointments, emeriti requests, and faculty leaves
•Develops and implement training programs for department chairs, program directors, and other academic leaders
•Represents the provost at the Faculty Senate Policies Committee (SPC) and other venues as needed
•Serves as chair of the Sabbatical Committee and manages the sabbatical leave process
•Acts as an impartial intermediary for faculty on professional matters
•Serves as point of contact/liaison for the Faculty Appeals and Faculty Grievance Committees
•Works with Faculty Senate and the Senate Policies Committee to assure consistent interpretation and application of Faculty Handbook, and participate in conversations regarding recommended changes.
•Collects, organizes, and analyzes faculty data needed to support internal decision-making
•Performs tasks and duties as assigned by the Provost

Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate or other terminal degree
  • At least 3 years of administrative experience in higher education and faculty experience (commensurate with tenure and promotion at the rank of associate professor or professor)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and efficiency

Appointment:
  • Initial appointment is for a three-year term with the potential for reappointment
